booking with codes

I am a 1st timer and can not wait. My trip is planned for late august. Although I have ressies for HIFS I am really hoping to get some discount codes and stay at a resort at an affordible rate.
When you book with a code do you pay the cost of the hotel stay or an initial depoisit?

you pay a deposit equal to one night stay(usually due within 7-10 days I cant remember which) with the balance due at check-in.
