Three of us own DVC. Here is the question. How to book.

500 points owned at DVC A
100 points owned at DVC B

600 points wanted to be used at DVC B

One said the whole stay can be booked at 11 months.
The other said you have to book the 100 points at 11 months and the rest at 7 months.

They asked me what I thought. I said never happened to me as I own at only one DVC.
I suggested to ask on the Disboard how to handle this.

So, how do you book it?

Technically, your friend who said you could use the 100 points at the 11 month window and then 500 points at the 7 month window is correct.

But if you need all 600 points for one trip, that would mean you could only book a small portion of your trip and it doesn't guarantee that DVC B will have availability for you to extend the stay when the remaining 500 points becomes available for use. So, realistically you need to wait until the 7-month window to book the entire trip at DVC B.

However, my suggestion would be to book a back-up plan that meets all of your accommodation needs at DVC A with the 500 points that are available. Then at the 7-month mark, try to book your preferred accommodations at DVC B with all 600 points. This way you know you will have somewhere to stay.

Hope this helps! Have a great trip!

The Other is right. You can only book your home portion at your home resort, in that case, 100 points at resort B.

If you want to book DVC-B 11 months from check in, you need to pay with DVC-B points. If the stay at DVC-B costs 600 points, you can book part of it 11 months out using whatever DVC-B points you can scrape together by banking and borrowing. You can then attempt to extend the reservation at 7 months from check-in by using DVC-A points, subject to availability.

If they didn't have the home resort booking rule, people would buy hundreds of whatever points were the cheapest and then a 25-point add-on at VGF for example and then use all of the points to book VGF 11 months out. That would undermine the other VGF owners. So the rule is, if you want to make a reservation more than 7 months from check in, only the points tied to that specific resort are valid for payment.
