OK, I'm sure that everybody here but me knows this...

Is there any price advantage booking through travel agents as compared to going directly to the Disney web site? I'm talking lodging and park tickets.

Thanks!

Rob

No!

There are a couple of agency's or travel sites that book blocks of rooms and they will offer special pricing at times. Some of those don't allow you to book a dining package. Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

No advantage, but a big disadvantage. If you book with a TA, you cant call and change, add discount or do ANYTHING on your reservation, the TA has to do it. You have to call the TA, and they have to do it for you. With some of the good discounts the rooms sell out fast. So if you are relying on a TA to call, they might not get to it as quickly as you would have.

But a good agent who specializes in Disney will know when those discounts are coming out and if they might be able to be applied to your reservation and will call and sit on hold for up to 4 hours all so you don't have to.
They can also offer valuable experience in the ins & outs of Disney and can steer you to the the things that your family might enjoy most or help you maximize your time in the parks.
Heck, the ones that can simply help you navigate FP+ reservations and My Disney Experience are priceless!
But to answer your original question, typically you pay the same price booking through a TA as your would directly through Disney.

TAs are good to use if you don't have time or don't want to take the time to book, keep an eye out for discounts, etc. With that said, some TAs are better than others so you really have to do your homework to find one that is well versed in Disney. Most of the time any deal a TA has, you can get yourself through Disney. However, as a pp mentioned, some agencies do have blocks of rooms that they offer at deep discounts that you cannot get yourself through Disney (although sometimes dates are very limited and only a few resorts/room types are offered). One major disadvantage for me to using a TA is the TA owns your reservation until you check in, so any questions you have about the reservation or any changes you make, you have to go through the TA as Disney will not discuss anything with you. Using a TA or not using a TA is personal preference and although I book everything myself through Disney as I like to have complete control over my reservation, there are some great TAs out there that stay on top of things and apply discounts to reservation sometimes before the guest even knows there's a discount offered.

I agree with a lot of the comments provided already. Basically, if you want someone giving you a more unbiased view on discounts and tips on what is and is not worthwhile, I would go with the TA. However, if you want the most flexibility and are willing to do your own homework, then stick to booking directly with Disney.

Unbiased view, isn't that what the DIS is?? Hahahahaha If your already here on the DIS you really don't need a TA.
