Booking Questions-Costco vs DCL??

Great info thanks , you mentioned paying with a credit card, assume it must have been an AMEX card or does the travel dept accept other ? Thanks again

You can use any credit card through Costco Travel, the charges appear as Disney Cruise Line (which incidentally does count as travel spending on my travel rewards card).

Why does the Travel Agent even have to call Disney to make changes? Why can't they just log into Disney's reservation system and make the changes without calling a live person? Seems very inefficient to me.

Yes Costco travel accepts other credit cards not just AMEX. I have used my Visa on all our Costco travel bookings.

What kind of savings have people gotten from booking through Costco? From what I have seen, the Costco bookings actually cost more than through DCL because they add on the "free $450 Costco Cash Card". For instance, for a 4 day cruise leaving Port Canaveral, the DCL cost was $5,200 and the Costco cost was $5,600!

Also, from what I have seen, Costco only has select Disney Cruises and not all of them.

the prices should be the same regardless of where you book, though folks have reported recently that, if you're not logged in at costco, the site may show you a higher price.

They have all cruises and they are the identical price. You can also apply Disney gift cards for payment. The cash cards comes out to be just slightly less than 9% but more than 8%.

I booked my upcoming Alaskan cruise onboard last year, so it was straight through dcl. When I got home, I transferred booking, within the 30 day requirement, and will still get the cash card. Haven't had any issues. This is the first I've tried with Costco, all others have been straight through dcl.

Can you please provide the specifics on how to use Disney gift cards for payment? Do I call Costco Travel?

Thanks in advance.

My current cruise booking is through Costco. I have paid it all through gift cards. I started by calling Costco first, giving them the #'s, they then called Disney themselves and gave them the card #'s. It all went well except for the fact that it was extremely time consuming since most of my gift cards were in the $25.00 amount. I then learned about the Disney vacation account. I then opened one up. I entered all the remaining gift cards myself. When I was done, I called Costco and they put me on a 3 way with Disney and I gave them my DVA # and paid about another $1,000 towards the cruise. I have since learned that I could call Disney directly with a special phone # (the # is on the DVA web page) and just give them the info on payment myself.

Good for you - sounds like you got gift card bonus (Target discount?), DVA bonus ($20 per &1000), any cc bonuses, and the Costco bonus. Nice!

You can use Visa/Amex/Mastercard with Costco travel.

We like specific cabins. When the booking window opens I call DCL and have them set up the reservation. I just tell them we are going to pay the deposit with Costco.

DCL has you email or fax them a form giving the reservation to Costco.

I started doing this several cruises ago because the cash card is much better than any OBC. We book concierge cabins so that cash card (just short of 9% on this next cruise) is really nice.

All our bookings with Costco were exactly the same price as I priced with DCL and other travel agents. Your difference in price may be taxes, etc that were not included.

Does the Costco site have taxes charged on top of the price where the DCL site includes them? I guess I will go through the process on Costco and see.

When I looked at the prices on Costco without logging in, they were higher. Once I created a travel account and logged into the travel site, the price was exactly, down to the penny, as the DCL site.

Okay just answered my own question. I went through the entire booking process on Costco (just did not pay!) and the price on Costco included the same taxes and fees that DCL shows. The difference in pricing the previous poster saw must occur when you are NOT logged in.

Nowadays you can go to the Disney Gift Card website and combine all those GCs into one.

No, there is the cruise fare and then there are taxes and port fees added. Its exactly the same price as the DCL, Expedia, etc.

Hello! I just have a question for you.

When you book through Costco you get the Costco cash card that is some sort of percentage of the cruise itself (I forget the percentage itself). If you start paying through DVA does the value of the Costco cash card go down since you are not paying through Costco anymore?

Thanks!
