booking question

I have a 50 point contract at VWL. I want to book a two night stay on December 10th and 11th. I know I have to wait until the 10 of this month to book the room. I also know that these tend to go quickly at the 11 month window. My question is: If someone with a larger point contract wanted the same two nights, are they able to book a stay today for December 8th up to and including the 10th and 11th, and then just cancel the 8th and 9th later on? This would be a more guaranteed way to get the nights they want (10th and 11th) as they can book that stay earlier due to the fact they have more points on their contract.
Is this possible? Does this happen a lot? Seems borderline unethical.
Not something I would or even can do as I only have 50 points to work with.

it is called "walking a reservation" and it has been discussed a lot if you want to look it up.

I have seen that term recently, but never read to find out what it meant. Hope my small contract doesn't put me at too much of a disadvantage in this case.

I would not be concerned. Contrary to some beliefs VWL doesn't book up immediately when the 11 month window opens.

Great! From reading the threads, it seems like unless you are on the site right at 8:00am at the 11 month window you might think there's no chance of getting what you want. so far, from perusing the availability tool, it seems your odds are better than what I though from doing research on the threads before owning.
