Hello...

I am in the beginning stages of looking at possibly someday buying dvc points. :) One thing I can't find anywhere is exactly how you book other resorts with your points. For example, if I wanted to book AKL with points, how would Iknow how many points I had to use for a night there?

If anyone has a link or has done this and could give me some info, that would be great.

Thanks!

Beth :tink:

To rent from a non-DVC resort, you only have to call MS like you are booking at a DVC resort. The annual member's guide has a chart of the amount of points it will cost you.

Word of Warning:

The price of dvc resorts is pretty well fixed over time. What costs you 35 points today will most likely cost you 35 points 20 years from now. If the price goes up, it's gotta' go down elsewhere.

There is no such luxury with non-DVC resorts. The cost is increasing every year & will continue to do so. This is not meant to disrespect the other resorts. We have used points @ AKL & other places, but your best point use is & will always be DVC resorts.

It kind of sounds like you want to rent a reservation from a member, not really buy into DVC. Am I right on that? If not, I apologize.

Non-DVC resorts usually cost more points-wise than DVC resorts. They may cost your more (if you are renting the reservation from a member) than booking directly from Disney, especially if you can get an AP or AAA rate.

But if you like the idea of a prepaid Disney vacation (lodging only), then DVC might be good for you. We have used points to stay at the Contemporary Resort and found it to be a new favorite. We also used points to book a 4 night Disney Cruise. They both used more points than just staying in a one bedroom or studio at DVC, but we really wanted to do them. They're your points, you do with them what you want.

THanks everyone! I told my mom this morning..."I've started to introduce the idea of buying a Disney Timeshare into dh's mind...it'll take a few years but I'll get what I want."

"You always do." she said shaking her head.

Well if you are buying DVC and want to trade out to other non-DVC disney resorts you can, its very simple but its costly - in terms of points.

I am doing that later this year. I am staying in the Tower at CR. Now it is costing me 200 points to stay from Sun- Friday (check in to check out) during value season. I could stay 8 nights in a one bedroom villa at home for just 4 points more during that time.

So while it can be done, it costs a lot.

This year (and the points to stay at non-DVC disney hotels do change every year while at DVC they don't) for AKL it would cost you 29 a night for Sun-Thursday night during value season in a std room. 52 for Sat and Sunday nights. Its even more if you go into regular seaons and so on. And more if you want to upgrade to savannah view.

cobbler did you put a sliderule to renting the 200 pts out and taking the cash and booking a stay?

The DVC info always gives you the cost ofother resorts outside the DVC ones.

Just as an FYI- this is not the nbest use of points. Certainly they are your points to use as you wish, and folks do, but the best use of points is to stay in the DVC resorts.

Take a peek at the links people have provided, and you will see that while the point counts for the DVC resorts are pretty reasonable, the point counts for the non-DVC resorts are quite high.

I just know that we have used all sorts of "creative booking" in order to maximize the number of points we have to "play" with!!!!

Ok, I am kind of tired right now but what is sliderule?

But no I didn't rent out my points and take the cash to book a stay.
But if I did rent them out, I would obviously have about 2G. I could have stayed 6 nights at CR for only $18 more.

So I could have stayed one night longer but I guess that one night was a convienence fee of not having to rent out.

We used points to stay at AKL for the last 4 nights of our vacation in July. We did not use weekend points though, WAY to expensive.
