Booking Onboard Question

I currently have a July 2017 Alaska cruise booked. I am planning on taking a cruise on the Dream in December. Could I cancel the Alaska cruise while on board and than re-book and keep the cabin I currently have? Would the deposit I currently have transfer to the new reservation and could I name a TA on the new reservation?

Thanks,

Not sure why you want to cancel and rebook? If it's for the possible saving using an Onboard Booking, you'll have to check the prices. The discounts for the onboard bookings is taken on the prevailing price, not on what the price was when you first booked the cruise. It's quite possible for prices to risen enough to negate the OBB savings.

But, to answer the question, if you cancel and rebook onboard, it may be possible to get the same room. I've read reports of that happening, and reports of if not happening. At the time you make your onboard booking, as long as the current cruise you are on was booked either directly by you, or through the TA you want to use for the new booking, you can name that TA. If the current cruise was booked through a different TA than the one you want to use for the new cruise, you'd have to do the OBB directly (as in you book it), and then transfer it to your new TA once home. I'll also point out, if you have to do the transfer thing, often TAs give less OBC for a transferred reservation, then they do if they make the booking themselves.

I believe if you cancel and rebook, you do need to actually make a new deposit. And the original deposit will be refunded to the method of payment you used.

I have done this recently. I was able to get the same room. You do have to pay another deposit, but the previous one was refunded very quickly

So can not request it be moved to new cruise even if you pay the required deposit on the new cruise? My current deposit was made with a lot of Disney Gift cards and I am not sure I can locate all of them.

I've had the deposit moved from a canceled reservation to an existing reservation. My TA is the one who handled it so I don't know the details of what was involved. All I know was that the reservation was canceled and funds moved at the same time. Not sure if the people working the OBB desk would know how to do it, but you could ask. Worst case scenario is to have to wait until you get back home to do it.

You may have to rebook, and then have your TA cancel the existing reservation and them move the new reservation to your room. I reshopped onboard and they were able to cancel and get me the same room only because I had not booked the original room with my TA, and were able to add my TA to the new reservation.

I thought Disney reduced the commission paid to the TAs when booking onboard even if the TA was named when you made the booking, so the OBC the TA gives you is reduced.

I rebooked a cruise onboard last month and the cast member I dealt with wasn't willing to do much. Even though the original booking was through Disney, I was told I had to call to cancel, which I'd never had to do before. We also were not given any choice of room or deck, just category, again, never happened before. We were told any specifications had to be done once ashore. Just to add, we walked right up to the desk and there was no one waiting behind us, so I'm not sure why we were hurried through so much. So the person you have to deal with could determine what happens with how your booking goes.

Hmm.... I thought I replied to this. But it's not here. :confused3

I hadn't heard that about the reduced OBC even if you initially name the TA while doing the onboard booking. I know it didn't used to be that way. Thanks for the information.

Can somebody remind me what are the benefits of booking on board? I recall a discount? 10% is there any obc as well? It is 24 months isn't it to be booked or taken? Just thinking about if I should book our next cruise onboard in September or wait. We want to next cruise Sep 2018

10% deposit on cruises of 7 nights and longer.
10% reduction on cruise fare.
$100 OBC for cruises less than 7 nights. $200 OBC for cruises 7 nights and longer.

Great thank you! I normally use a DU TA so I would feel bad about not using her. She's very good. Did you say you can mention a TA also and get their OBC also. But I wouldn't want her to get less out of the deal.

Also we like doing 7 night b2b cruise on The Dream instead of 7 nights on The Fantasy. I wonder if you can book a b2b or they consider this 2 cruises?

B2B is officially considered 2 cruises, though it used to be the exception allowed as an OBB. Reports I've read in the past year or so indicate it is no longer allowed -- you need to choose 1 leg of the B2B for the OBB and book the other leg without the discount (though I believe it still gets the OBC, just not the discount).

Enjoy your cruises!

I see thank you! Although I just had a thought. We are doing a b2b in September so I could book one on each cruise... I assume we could.

Yes, if you are doing a B2B, you could book each leg of a future B2B during each of the current cruises. Sounds like a perfect solution -- how lucky to be doing a B2B and planning another!

Thank you! I know I have to pinch myself everyday! Lucky lady.

Yes, you can name your DU TA at the time of booking. You will get 50% of whatever they are offering for OBC from DU. DCL cut the commission to travel agents for onboard bookings which cause DU to have to reduce OBC that they offer.

Unless it has changed, the last time we did this we were told that during the cancellation of the first cruise the stateroom goes back into inventory during that process and the CM has to "grab" it for the new booking, and once in a while it is gone by the time they go to get it.

Thank you that is fair enough re the cut in OBC if they don't get as much commission.
