Booking now, code later?

If I book my trip through WDW site myself and then a code comes out for the dates of my travel, I can call and get the code applied, right? What if I use a travel agent, do I have to contact the agent to get the code applied? What are the benefits of using a travel agent? What can they do for me that I can't do myself?

I do everything myself and don't go through a TA, just an added step in the way in my oppinion. Yes, you can call and have a code applied if it is released not problem. I don't know how that would work with a TA I assume they can just call and have it applied for you as well, I know AAA can.
