I called to book our October trip-----DH and I alone no cherubs just us! The CM I spoke to got me a AAA rate, not great but it will do until, fingers crossed, an AP rate comes out. When she got to requests I said that I needed a Handicapped room with a wheel in shower-----she asked me what my disability was and I explained it to her as well as saying that I have a handicapped placard for parking. She asked me to hold and then came back on saying that while they did have a room available I am not considered disabled. She said that they would put it on the request but that it was not guaranteed. The past 3 trips have never been a problem, explained what I needed and why and I got it. Arrrggggg, my sister is paralyzed from the waist down and has a service dog and I have huge issues with requesting what I need or parking in Handicapped.....I feel like I am being a fraud that other people are worse off than me-sister for example. This is a hard enough thing for me to do and she made me feel like yuck, I ended up saying thanks but no thanks and hanging up feeling like I was mud or something. Called a friend later today, who knows me and she suggested I call again and talk to another CM. I did and got April---she was wonderful, helpful, and did not make me feel like a 2nd class citizen in the least. Just needed to vent and feel like I was not being bad for asking for what I need. Thanks all.....

If anything like that ever happens again, "sweetly" ask again for the person's name, copy it down, and then ask to be connected to a supervisor. I think the person you talked to needs some instruction. Once you have the person's name if they don't connect you to a supervisor, then hang up and call again and ask whoever answers for a supervisor; at that point you have dealt not only with an insenitive CM but also one who is intentionally rude. There is a large pool of unemployed in Orlando and Tampa (where the two reservations centers are) and they can get a better employee.

At least you did later talk to someone who understood problems.

I totally agree with Mike.
You should not have to justify your need for a certain type of accessible room (especially having them decide you are not "handicapped enough.")

I am sorry to read you had this problem with CRO. However, I am glad to read you called back & got a much friendlier CM. As the others have suggested, if there is a next time, please get the CM's name & talk to a supervisor.

My first thought when I read your post was that perhaps the CM wanted to make sure you were getting the correct type of accomodations. However, that does not give her the right to be the judge.

I hope you have a wonderful trip in October with your husband!

It's terrible that you were treated this way, however I can add a possible reason why ( not that this justifies someone telling you you're "not disabled enough for the room"- things should have been handled differently. ) I know for awhile they were asking questions as to why people were requesting refrigerators for medical reasons. It seems as though enough people had heard that if you said you needed it for medical reasons, the fee would be waived. They had people in CRO/special requests looking up medications in the PDR to see if they required refrigeration! Anyway, since there are limited rooms for guests with disabilities ( I know there are only 10 rooms out of 600+ at the Yacht Club), perhaps they are trying to be sure they are only going to guests who need the facilities. I've heard of some people saying they are disabled to get a certain view or room close to the lobby etc, or even to get a complimentary room, or one that comes with a refrigerator ( as in the king rooms at the All-Stars). While it sad that some folks will scam to get something they're not entitled to, it's even sadder when someone is judged, sight unseen, and told they don't qualify for what they actually need....sigh. ---Kathy

Thanks to one and all who responded.....feeling better today. It is going to be a better day! I do understand about why they ask, it was how she did it and made me feel and some of my own stuff around asking for what I need---due to sister's issues. I try very hard not to use my placard on good days and try not to ask for any special accoms. when the knees are doing well. However as I am still 30 something-lol almost the big one.....they cannot do the fake knees thing yet-and it will be a double. They are talking now about moving bones in my leg and repositioning my knees-----arggg. They also said it would be a 4-6 month recovery bigger arrgggg. I am going for a 3rd opinion in 3 weeks. This is so naive on my part I did not even realize that people asked for special accoms. for view etc. All I care about is a room that is easy for me to get in and out of the shower, aka walk in, so I don't fall trying to climb in a tub again like the first trip we took in 2001! Anyhow thanks all and have a sparkiling 4th.

Faith, trust, and pixie dust to you.

*hugs* Heck! be glad that CM didnt talk to me I'd have told him/her where to get off....saying you aren't handi enough! Makes me ill just thinking they have the right to say that or not.

If the CM was a female w/ very little personality tho you likely got the CM I dealt w/ this week when I was planning MVMCP.
CHild had the NERVE to rattle off that she was having a HORRIBLE day and nothing was going right for her....now is that very CM like behaviour??? I ask you.

I'm just glad you worked it all out! :)
