Hi - please could someone give me a quick idea of how I can book a 1 bed for my sister in August for her birthday present? She is not a DVC owner and have never stayed at a Disney resort but she would LOVE to. I have 30 points which I cannot use before 1 Sept and they will be lost. She will be staying off site in August so could I book a 1 bed and she and her family use it for the night and use up those points? Can I do it online? How do I tell them that it isn't me using it or do I not tell them?
Any advice very welcome!

It's really easy. I haven't done online booking yet, but presume based on reports so far that it'd be easy to do online, too...

But for calling in the reservation, just call MS ... tell them you want a 1-BR on the date you want and the resort you want, and tell them you're making the reservation for someone else (you can say it's a gift to your sister, but you don't have to and they probably won't ask).

They will need your sister's name, address & phone number, and the names (and ages of children) of all who will be staying in the villa.

Voila--done.

They'll read you a confirmation number, and then email you a confirmation (altho it'll show up basically instantaneously under "my reservations" on the dvcmember website...I usually have that site open when I call, and virtually always the reservation shows up there before I conclude my call w/MS)...

They'll probably ask you if you want ME and/or the dining plan (easy to say "no" or "not yet"...if you say "yes" you'll have to give them flight arrival info for ME and payment for the dining plan)...they will probably also ask you for a credit card number...just say no. You are not required to put down a credit card, ever (and certainly not for someone else), but they've gotten kind of pushy about asking for one at booking these days.

Good luck!

Oh fabby - thanks very much. I am in England so am VERY excited about the on-line booking and not having to make a call to the US to do a booking so I hope it will be so easy to do on line. I will have a go and report back in case anyone else wants to do the same.
thanks again

As an FYI, it's no issue to book for family members using your DVC. I've booked separately for my sister and brother in the past, and also for friends. You'll want to give the names of whos actually staying, so they can check in properly. No big deal to have non-member stays booked unless you do this a bunch of times in a year (maybe it's 10 or 20+ reservations that's the threshold).
