Booking DLH through Expedia?

Hi everyone! Heading to DLH in late February and so excited! I looked on the DL site and saw they don't have any standard rooms left. I then looked on Expedia and they are showing standard rooms . . . ? By booking through Expedia we would save about $50 over booking the resort/pool view through Disney.

I'm just wondering - does Expedia really have standard rooms in their inventory or am I going to book through them only to get an e-mail that the rooms aren't really available? I see Expedia wants full payment upfront, whereas Disney only wants a one-night stay deposit. If I cancel through Expedia, what can I expect in terms of getting my money back, etc.

If you've had experience booking (and canceling!) through Expedia, please share!!

Thanks so much!

I recently returned from a stay at PPH booked through Expedia. Like you, I had to pay the entire amount at the time of booking, though I did get a good rate. There were no problems at all, and yes, they will often have rooms that are no longer available on the Disneyland site. Many agencies like Expedia buy up blocks of rooms from Disney.

As far as cancellations, you are bound by the same policies as Disney, so you can cancel up to 5 days before your trip with no penalties. Expedia does not add a cancellation penalty.

Enjoy your trip! I've booked through Expedia before and never had any trouble.

BTW, if you are a MyPoints member, you can earn points for your stay through Expedia but not through Disney so that's another advantage. If you don't know what it is, it's a rewards program that allows you to earn points for purchases made online and for clicking on their partner sites. My sister hates it because it's extra work to her but I've earned so many points that I often have enough to pay for a hotel room, Starbucks, or often Rainforest Cafe meals on our Disney trips. Too bad they don't offer Disney gift cards as a reward!

I haven't used a travel site like that for an onsite place, but I have for Carousel Inn. It worked just fine. If you're happy with the price go for it!

(for disney gift cards there's always Sunshine, DizMe. :) )

You know, I tried *************** but I couldn't get it to work for me :confused3. I thought it was because I'm on the west coast so all of the offers were taken up before I was out of bed :rotfl:. But you're a west-coaster too...does it work for you?

ETA: apparently, that is not a site that DIS approves of. And weird how my post jumped above yours! I've seen that happen recently but this is the first day it has happened to me (it happened in another thread I posted to as well). Probably has something to do with how important I am on DIS. HAR!!!

In 2009 I booked the DLH at $295 per night through Expedia and then a few weeks later a deal for $163 per night came up. I cancelled the first booking and re-booked at the lower rate. I think the refund took a day or so to hit my credit card.
Also, when I was pricing things out. On the Disney site I tried a DLH/Parkhopper package and then priced hotel only and tickets only and the package was about $120 more than buying them separately! I emailed the site to ask what the charge was for and got no response. I was not immpressed.
So I booked the hotel and tickets through Expedia and there was no extra $120 added on. Needless to say, I will be using Expedia for our upcoming trip as well.
