booking at 7 months

Is is difficult to book where you want at 7 months? I tried BWV standard view studio and AKL Value studio for the 22-27 january and there was no availability.

I thought it was low season and I would have a chance. It is my first try as we are new members. Do you think it is easier in september, or not when it would be?

Because those categories have a low percentage of rooms in the resorts usually owners will book them up before the 7 month window opens. It's not impossible but not as likely to book categories that require greater points and have more rooms. The value conscious will be sure to use the 11 month window.

I believe standard view at BWV is only 20% of the rooms and AKV has 20 value studios. I am sure someone will correct me I may be off a little.

Given the above did you waitlist and did you call right at the 7 month window?

Actually the timeframe you chose is about as slow as it gets. I go this time every year and I still have problems getting BWV standard. So you were my competition I see. Nope I didn't get it either. Too many holes to make a reservation. I needed Jan 18-28, but was willing to do Jan. 18-23 or Jan. 23-28 and could not get either of those reservation too. I did waitlist for either the first 5 days or the last 5 days and doing a split with OKW. I do own at BWV, but was using my SSR points for my January reservation as I normally save my BWV points for my October reservation. I had thought of trying AKV value too, but decided to split between OKW and BWV, esp. since they are the exact amount of points and since I need to bank in November and that trip is in January, I don't want to mess with my numbers, so either reservation uses the same points. I could've had just about anything else though, but was trying to save points as I have a big trip coming up in April, so need the extra points there. Not sure if you waitlisted, but if you did, good luck.

I couldn't get a BWV standard studio for 2 nights in January, even though I tried more than 8 months out. I did get the other 5 nights and in the end, I'm going to BLT for those 2 nights. I've wanted to try a BLT studio, and I'm glad I got that, right at 7 months.

There aren't many AKV value studios so getting those at 7 months is hard. Those cheap point values are hard to resist for AKV owners! At around 7 months out, I had to waitlist for a value studio, but it did come through. That stay is September 11 to 15. I already had a value 2 bedroom booked. Now that there would be 6 of us, I wanted a 2 bedroom and a studio so that each of us could have our own bed.

Since the waitlist worked for me, I hope it works for you!

no I did not waitlist, I think I will wait until september 2012. I just wanted to know other people experiences. I made the "reservations" online and they did offer to waitlist and also all the other resorts where there was availability.

So I had others choices but I was surprise because of the time of year. I guess I was expecting it would be easy but I will know for the next time!

Yes, I was booking around 8 months out for the week after the January marathon. It was around that time (April, maybe) that I decided to spend the whole month of January in Florida. I waitlisted until the 7 month mark, and took BLT when that was available for the 2 nights missing from the week. I'm actually happy to have the 2 nights at BLT.

For the September visit this year, we also own at AKV and booked the value 2 bedroom right at 11 months out. Then DSis asked to bring a friend and I didn't want to borrow more AKV points, so I waited until 7 months, and got the standard view studio, waitlisted for the value and it came through. I figured if both units are "value" they could be close to each other.

I've had great luck booking MLK weekend at the 7 month window, but I go with 2br villas. We've had BCV, BW view at BWV and MK view at BLT.

AKV Value villas, BW view BWV, BW Standard view, BLT Theme park view, BLT standard view, any GV, any BWV or BCV for October, VWL for Thanksgiving/Christmas will be hard to get if you don't book at 11 months out.

And any DVC from Thanksgiving to New Years at 7 months or less will be hard to get.

You might get a day or two here and there, but not an entire week.

I just booked a LV studio at BLT yesterday for January 14-21 so at a little less than 7 months out.

At seven months you are going to have to be more flexible. SOMETIMES you might get that BW Standard View or VAKL Standard View. More likely preferred view or savannah view will be available. If that is too many points OKW is likely to be available.

The low points rooms are not a very big percentage of the resorts and tend to be really popular with the people who own that resort to save points. And at seven months they become really popular for the rest of the membership.

I may see you around. I'll be there for January, too, in a standard studio, booked at 11 months. I did decide to extend it from 3 weeks to 4, so had to WL at probably the 9 month mark. But it came through after a week.
