Booking and then needing less points?

I am working on every possible 2011 points scenario :surfweb: Here is my issue:

I am going to book my home resort at 11 months and will need xxx points. We are planning to do a split stay. In order to meet the points needed I will have to borrow points. What happens when I book the second resort at 7 months but need less points? What happens to the borrowed points? Is it a bad idea to do that? Should I book the first part and then just wait until the 7 month mark to book the next part? I haven't comepletely decided on the 2nd resort and I might need more points but there are 3 options that would require less points than all 10 nights at my home resort.

:thanks:

I don't know the answer-but that is a GREAT question and I will be watching for the answer because I'd like to know too!:thumbsup2

Use your borrowed points first. The regular points not used, can be banked.

When you call at the 7 month mark to change, just tell the CM at MS that you want to be sure the borrowed points, as Bill mentioned, get used first. Then you can bank current UY points.

The only drawback would be if you ended up having to cancel the whole trip. Then you would have points that can't be returned.

They SHOULD use the borrowed points first but don't always so double check. You can then bank any current UY points as long as you're outside the banking window which you should be.

Thanks all! My UY is December. I can book my home resort in Jan 2011 for our Dec 2011 trip. I can book the 7 month resort in May I believe. I have to bank any current points by July 31 so I should be okay.

Lot of details involved. :upsidedow

Since you are planning to book for Dec you should book the entire stay and then try to change at 7 months. People are saying how hard it is to get Dec reservations at 7 months or less so you need to have that backup reservation in place unless you are looking for SSR or OKW in which case you may be okay waiting. Good luck - I had waitlists in place for last Dec and they never came through so I was very glad I had that OKW reservation in place. It's my favorite resort anyway and I only did the waitlist because others in the group wanted to try something different. Good luck with your planning and I know you will have a great trip going in Dec.

Thanks!!! We love the OKW too. We stayed in a GV and it was fabulous- huge-perfect! :lovestruc

:cloud9: Our home is SSR and we are very happy with our choice. We have also stayed at the GCV and the AKV SV but the AKV and OKW were before we owned DVC. We are wanting to try them all so when we add on it will be at a place we like as much as the SSR.

Are some DVC harder to get into than others in December? That will influence my 2nd resort stay decision. I don't want to get excited for something that won't happen.

Most DVC resorts are hard to get in Dec but VWL is really hard and I think so is BLT.

:thumbsup2 Good to know! Not interested in BLT at this point. The VWL look neat but if we are going "woodsy" I think I would rather do the THV. I am guessing the VWL are similar to the GCV during the holidays and the Grand is stunning when dolled up for the holidays. :cloud9:
