Booking and then modifying your reservation

I have a June 2017 DCL cruise booked. If I modify my reservation to a verandah six months from now, will the price revert back to day one, or will I pay the appreciated value?

Now the wheels are turning. My current reservation was booked using my onboard discount. If I make a second reservation, for a verandah room, in case I hit the lottery, and later cancel my 9A, will DCL move my discount to the verandah room?

If you change categories on the same cruise you will get the pricing of the original day you booked.
