Booking a cruise with points?? HELP!

We are curious whether or not you can book a DCL cruise with points and then switch it to cash later on (before penalties set in)?
Is this something anyone has done before?

Why not just ask Member Services? I'm sure they would be able to answer it for you.

Even if they allow it, I pretty sure that those points get converted from "vacation points" to "reservation points." This means that you wouldn't be able to use those points for any of the DVC resorts after you got them back from the cruise. You could use them for other resorts at WDW, however.
