Any potential negatives to booking my 7 person family into a room that sleeps 6 at WDW for my pre cruise stay? I have 5 kids, the youngest is 3 and will sleep with my husband and I or his siblings easily. I could get 2 rooms, which I would do if we were going to the parks, but it's just one night and then get on DCL transport to the port. Will I get in trouble for this? Will there be a problem booking 7 on the transportation? Since they're completely separate reservation systems it seems like it should work...

What about booking a room for 6 at the Hyatt MCO- same story?

Obviously I booked everyone into 2 DCL staterooms.

This is not allowed and it’s not allowed for your own safety as it is due to fire codes.
Thanks for your reply! While I don’t think a 30ish pound three year old would actually be dangerous, I didn’t consider it as a fire capacity situation for the resort. I’ll plan accordingly. I just wish it were as easy to get adjoining resort rooms as staterooms😥.

Looks like the 2 bedroom villas at a DVC fit 7. May be worth the little extra to be all connected. Have a fun trip!

We have the advantage of sometimes traveling with friends who will put our 5th person on their room reservation. Funny thing is, we usually end up with the kids all bunking in different rooms than we planned anyway lol. But yes, Disney is VERY fussy about the occupancy limits.

It’s not Disney. It’s the State Fire Marshall. And it has to do with egress limits. How fast the people in the room can get out of the room and the building. Even if you have a room with two queen beds and a fold out sofa, the room may only be legal for 5 occupants. Here is an article that explains it.

Great article, thanks for sharing. I mentioned Disney is fussy about hotel occupancy more in the sense I’ve rarely had another hotel with things like wrist bands for the pool and unscheduled room checks. And some pricey upcharges for a DCL cabin that can have a 3rd child.

You can easily get adjoining rooms at Disney World for 2 adults and 5 minor children! Just call and they will do guaranteed connecting rooms on one reservation.

You're not going to get the reply you are hoping for, not here or on any forum other than perhaps Reddit. Everyone here will tote the line and you know the line of which I speak. While they are 100% correct to quote and tote the line, do they also follow every speed limit posted? Cross only at the designated crosswalks? Post social media content with songs playing in them without artist approval? Return shopping carts to the holding area? Borrow their friends or grandmothers streaming account? Feed wildlife in National Parks?

You see where I'm going right? Bottom line, yes, IF (and IF is the biggest word in the dictionary for if the Queen had these_____, she'd have been King) IF there was a fire and IF you were incapacitated and unable to escape, then yes, firefighters might be unaware of how many souls are in your room to be rescued. In all probability, that worst case scenario will not happen, the 7 people in the room will wake the following morning just fine and have a little extra coin in your pocket, no worse for wear.

When our niece was with us from Europe, we contemplated doing this for the hotel trip down to Disney and back but I realized a second room meant we could stuff the kids in one and we'd have some adult privacy. But wait!, we violated a rule in doing so! Even with connecting rooms, one adult should have been in that room. Good thing the universe didn't implode.

We are a family of 7, we have never been guaranteed connecting rooms at any hotel, including Disney, and they will let you know it’s not guaranteed but they’ll do their best.

Could do 2 dvc studios, but again you'd not likely be next door and maybe not even same floor. Or do a DVC 2BR. Could rent from someone if there are still folks out there renting (i thought DVC was cracking down on that).

I’ve rented points for a 2 bedroom from private parties, even going the route it’s still more expensive than 2 moderates. It was worth it to us because we were going to the parks for 5 days, we did laundry, cooked, had a couple of 4 year olds who needed downtime. If we just needed a place to sleep the night before a cruise we’d just book 2 of the cheapest rooms we could find.

Yeah, I'll probably just book 2 rooms. I have had good luck at Disney with only 1/5 times not getting rooms at least next door if not actually adjoining. However, it's a holiday weekend and it really is a pain to pack up 2 hotel rooms- stuff is just less organized.

I've had it not work before. Mostly, we've gotten our request. They tell you at booking that there is no way to guarantee adjoining rooms. Interestingly, the time we were separated was when I had a TA book for me.

Also, you have to book an adult into each room, so unless you actually sleep that way, you're breaking the rules.

We've never needed adjoining rooms before this past summer when she was here. Our kids are still young enough to get away with a single room. Our niece is at the age where she really should have some privacy (14) which was part of it, the hotel was able to give us adjoining rooms so the light bulb went off, put the kids in one room and viola! we have privacy! I knew it was breaking a hotel rule but I'm okay breaking the occasional arbitrary rule. Our niece has a level head and good sense, certainly enough to not open the corridor facing door. Plus, we kept the adjoining door open so we could keep an ear on them.

I believe the fact they are then leaving on a Disney Cruise (with passports, birth certificates, etc) made everyone understandably more aware of the occupancy rules for the resort before the trip, plus using DCL transport the next day etc. I don't doubt many here book in the gray area (maybe when pool wristbands are not an issue). Besides stress, there is also that whole silly do as I say, not as I do, telling the truth, issue with impressionable kids ;)

No one is coming to check your room...you'll be fine.

Room checks are common for Disney. I think the biggest issue is it’s going to flag in the system when it’s tied to the transportation part. I would just get two rooms and hope they are connecting or close by.

I am going to say I’m a little confused by this post. If saving money is the issue, taking DCL transportation with the family that large is a very pricey choice. I understand the benefit of an early boarding group… but at $45 per person each way for a family of seven you are looking at $315 each direction plus the additional transportation to a WDW hotel.

There are cheaper hotels with cheaper transportation options to port. I think the fact that you’re tying your Disney stay to the transportation is likely going to cause some flags to go up. Your best bet is to get two rooms- perhaps at a value resort if your heart is set on staying overnight on property and taking DCL transportation. Considering the cost of a six person room it might not be that much more.
