How difficult is it to book a 2br at AKV or BLT at 8 mths? Especially at Christmas, Presidents wk or Thanksgiving? Reason being that my immediate family only needs a studio or 1br, but we'd need to switch to 2br if extended family comes too. And of course they do plan their vacations as far out as us DVCers. LOL

Recommendation at busy times is to book your home resort at 11 months out and then see what happens later on. If you can't get a two bedroom villa at a shorter time out, you might be able to add a studio, but it would not be connected and might not be close.

Those are peak times at popular resorts, so you may very well have a problem getting a 2 bedroom at 8 months.

Consider booking (separately) both a 1 bedroom and a studio at 11 months. It's a few more points than a 2 bedroom, but you can easily cancel one without a problem (up to 31 days prior to arrival) if the extended family doesn't come. Think of the extra points as "insurance".
