Booking 2 rooms at a value?

That is a little fib. Even when you are at the resort you calls go to a call center, which is why if you have a problem it is always better to go to the front desk. And get someone who actually is on site and will care that you are happy.

At any rate, the OP can call and have her request for connecting rooms noted on her reservation. But it is indeed a REQUEST.
 
I think the only way to absolutely guarantee that your family won't be split up is to book a room/suite that can hold all of you.

Like others said, Disney will do its best to accommodate you, but there is a chance that they will be unable to do so.
 
We've always booked online & made our requests for connecting rooms that way too. But we always call also. We've always had our request met (@ POP) but once both rooms were not ready at the same time, one had a later check out I guess but we always just check in early at front desk and then head to a park anyway.
