OK... That's a teaser to get you to read this, but I don't think you are going to like it! :guilty:

Disney is calling this a 'package' discount where we have to buy tickets to get the discount, but I was able to figure out that the discount is completely based on the room and NONE of it is based on the ticket portion.

Here is how I did it:

I had to do four calculations on the Disney website. Two of the calulations were done on the regular pricing web page and two were done on the new discount web page.

Calculation #1 on regular pricing web page:

2 adults, 2 jr, 7 nights, AS Music, during value season

$1563.78

Calculation #2 on discount pricing web page:

2 adults, 2 jr, 7 nights, AS Music, during value season

$1328.80

Savings between 1 and 2 is $234.98

I then removed 1 adult from the mix for my next two calucations, but everything else remained the same. If there were discounts on the ticket portion, it should show up as a difference in the savings between 3 and 4, but did not..

Calculation #3 on regular pricing web page:

1 adult, 2 jr, 7 nights, AS Music, during value season

$1325.08

Calculation #4 on discount pricing web page:

1 adult, 2 jr, 7 nights, AS Music, during value season

$1090.10

Savings between 3 and 4 is STILL $234.98

If there were any savings on the ticket portion, there would have been a difference in the amount of savings between the first two and last two calculations????

I suppose I could be missing something, so let me know if I am!

I had also decided that all of the discount was on the room portion and not on the ticket portion.

I created a spreadsheet to help me out when I called this morning as I was debating between Value/Mod and also between 4 day base, 4 day PH, 10 day with no exp and 10 day with no exp, PH and options.

I noticed that the savings is the same no matter what kind of tickets you get - whether 4 days or 10 days or with whatever various options you add/don't add.

I think that the people who stand to save the most are the ones who stay for a while (6 nights+) and who only purchase whatever tickets they need/want. If you already have tickets you can use, but want to take advantage of the discount (which increases with an increase in resort type), then I guess you could just purchase a one day ticket to get the full discount. Does that make sense?

We had nothing, but went ahead and purchased 10 days with everything. I figure I'll get them at today's prices and will be able to use 6 days plus the 5 options on later trips. We won't have to worry about buying tickets later and can then spend more money elsewhere! :teeth: That's the way my mind works anyway!!!

Mav,

What percentage does that make the discount?

When I called, the CM told me that yes, it was only on the room portion.

Looks like you are correct.

If I price out the Poly GDN during value season w/different types of passes and then back out the "normal" cost of the passes I keep coming up with a room rate of $297 w/tax.

So it looks like the discount is off the room rate only - It would be $297/night plus the going rate of the tickets...about a 12% discount for value season.

Triple figs.... This is where it gets really silly!!!!

Regular price for 7 nights at a AS Music during VALUE season is $609.07 ($77 X 7 X 1.13 - for tax). You save $234.98, and that is an amazing 38.58% discount on the room.

Regular price for 7 nights at a AS Music during REGULAR season is $783.09 ($99 X 7 X 1.13 - for tax). You save $409.09, and that is an ASTOUNDING 52.24% discount on the room.

I haven't figured this for any of the other resorts types, so I'm not sure if it would be comparable.
