Booked the British Isles cruise for my honeymoon

Edinburgh Is definitely recommended over Glasgow. I live just outside Edinburgh and studied in Glasgow and while Glasgow is a really vibrant, cultural city, Edinburgh is just more appealing. Beautiful architecture, great history, the castle and just a better tourism infrastructure. It’s only an hour from Glasgow. Heads up, Greenock is a typical port town and not pretty in the slightest so you really need to go on an excursion. There are good transport links from Greenock to Glasgow and then very regular trains right into the centre of Edinburgh if you wanted to DIY it.

I agree that Edinburgh is a better city to play tourist, I have been to both twice. The Castle, the Royal Mile, etc. are easy to walk around and see and just a great city. If you've never been to Scotland, I'd do Edinburgh if you have a chance. But...we hired a private car for our family of 4 (cheaper than you might think) to see what we wanted from Greenock. Our cruise had a stop in Edinburgh so we knew we were going there later. We really enjoyed Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. The nice surprise for us was Doune Castle and a great lunch in Doune. You may recognize Doune Castle from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", "Outlander" tv series, or the original Winterfell in GoT (although for Winterfell this was a stretch to see a resemblance given all the CGI).

IMO, Dublin is an easy city to do on your own. Very walkable, with plenty of cabs if you need to go farther distances.

For Belfast, the whole Antrim coast has GoT filming locations but is one of the prettiest drives I've ever taken, better than Hwy 1 in CA and right there with the Amalfi coast of Italy. Plus, most tours from Belfast take you through the area where the Troubles occurred and the Peace Walls are, very interesting and great, more recent history lesson.

Oh that's exciting! You'll to stop by and say hi :) We will be wearing the Mickey and Minnie wedding ears all over the ship. I'm debating if we should try and do that game show where they pick a honeymoon couple. You're going to have so much fun, I really love the Disney cruise line. They do such a good job keeping adult only areas just for adults and the ship is beautiful. And so exciting for your DH I love Europe you're going to have so much fun! We can bounce planning ideas off each other."

We actually got married on the Carnival Magic this past August and we did their version of the Love & Marriage show! Do it if you get the chance! It's so fun and we had guests coming up to us the rest of the trip.

Oh and we plan on getting a banner for our door that guests can sign. We meant to do that for the wedding cruise and left the banner at home by mistake.

So happy to hear great things about DCL and yes we'll have so much planning to do so I will definitely be bouncing ideas off of people and getting advice. It's great to get other guest's input!

I love Outlander and Game of Thrones, I'll definitely see if we can go there. My Fiance is always talking about Monty Python so he'd probably like it too.

That's good to know. I'll do some research into what we want to see and see if any of the cruise excursions are going or if we should do it on our own.

That sounds fantastic.

That's so fun, I considered doing a cruise wedding. I've watched a few of the shows and my Fiance is always asking me what my answers would be so we can be prepared when we do the show, he's very excited about it so we'll probably end up doing it lol.

That's a cute idea!

This site is really helpful with planning. It's the reason I came here in the first place was planning for my first Disney cruise.

I’d second (third) the recommendation of Stirling Castle, it’s not quite as big as Edinburgh, but you’d get to see some of the surrounding countryside and the site of the battle of Bannockburn is close by.

For something slightly different I’d suggest Inveraray, it’s a beautiful wee town, with a very romantic castle and some really lovely scenery through the hills on the way there.

I don't know what excursions DCL will have from Liverpool (Beatles tour I am assuming?) but it really depends what you like to do. Liverpool has great shops, several museums and the Tate art/Walker art galleries as well as all the Beatle-y stuff.

One thing is be prepared to be blown away by the reception the Disney Magic gets when it comes into port. The city makes a massive deal of it, has outdoor showings of Disney movies on the dockside, there is a fun fair, and when it sails away everyone cheers from the shore. I took my kids down there last summer ahead of us going on the Med cruise and we got a little teary as we saw the Magic sail out onto the Mersey, sounding her horn. I think you are going to have a wonderful time
