 Doing the happy dance!
Had to post this -- We originally booked 8016, two bedroom suite, for October 31, 2009. The call came today that the Roy O. Disney suite was available. Who could resist paying the difference in a category two and one??? We couldn't!!! All our daughter knows is that she is "going on the Disney cruise." She does not understand this magnitude though!

Congratulations!! We were in the Roy 2 years ago and loved the room and the location. We were in 8016 in November. We did love the room and the layout was probably better for a family of 5 but I really preferred the Roy and the luxuries the cat 2 doesn't have. I also preferred midship over forward so the Roy and the midship cat 3 were my favorite rooms.

Either room (or any room on the ship) is cause for a celebration. You would have loved 8016 but you are really going to enjoy the Roy. I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

Congratulations!! :yay: I know how you feel. We got the call today that a Cat. 2 was available for one of the dates we were looking at. We had already booked a Midship Cat. 3 for a earlier Sept. date so I was absolutely thrilled that a Cat. 2 was available for the Sept. 26, 2009 sailing. :woohoo:
I called DH and all he cares about is that he is in a suite (doesn't matter which one) and my DDs are just happy to be sailing Disney again.

We booked the Walt suite but for a later cruise. Same situation, we had booked the cat II and the guy said well the Walt suite is open you want that instead?

Does a bear crap in the woods?

what is the price difference between a 1 and 2. Is it like $5000 diff or only $1000 diff. My parents are looking to try to jump cat. for next year and I was wondering how much it jumps between these catergories.

I am hoping one day to be able to stay in the roy suite. Have a great time!!

Depends on the cruise. You can get an average pricing range when you go to the DCL cruise under rates. The more popular the cruise or a holiday cruise, the more expensive the cruise. For us, 7 people in a cat. 1 (Walt Suite) for the NYE cruise on the Magic was over $21,500 without airfare or insurance.

Those of us on a budget.

Luckily my kids will be absolutely THRILLED with our Cat 10 room.

I think what the poster meant was if you are already paying the freight for a cat. 2, you might not flinch for the extra bucks for a cat. 1. However, I agree if I were in a cat. 10, I would not want to pay the freight for a cat. 1. You will have just as wonderful a cruise no matter what stateroom you happen to reserve. Just paying extra money doesn't make the cruise any more wonderful.

Just my thoughts...

The costco gift card is probably more than the cost of my secret porthole room. If you got it enjoy it I say.

For our October 2009 easter the differece between Cat 1 & Cat 2 was about $700. The differece between Cat 2 & Cat 3 was about $2,500.

We had the chance to see the Roy O. when some wonderful DISers let us in to see it on our last Magic cruise...
Boy am I jealous!! You will love it!

Someday!!

The difference in price between a category 2 and a category 1 was only $700.00 for the four of us, one being a then four year old. We then had to up our travel insurance by $77. total. So, I round our increase to $1000.00 or so. Sorry, but I couldn't resist it!!! Thank you for all of your support! If anyone is on this cruise, we would love to have you stop by for a drink. Our veranda can fit up to 15 people!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were fortunate enough to find out 30 days before our sailing that the Roy had become available for our 11/25 4 nt a couple of weeks ago. We upgraded from a cat 3. You will LOVE IT!!!!! It is absolutely AWESOME, and yes the veranda is HUGE. It has 2 lounge chairs which is really nice. My kids loved the little tv in the master bath. We ordered dinner in every night and enjoyed the beautiful dining room. We were in a cat 2 last year, and I didn't think it could get much better....but it does!!

We got the Walt for a May 2009 4 night and the price difference between a cat 2 and 1 was 800.00 for a family of 2 adults, 2 kids.

Enjoy every minute of it!!!!!

Nice...I wonder if you could let DCL know in advance that you'll be dining in your stateroom every night...that way they could free up your table for someone else and you could save $$$ on the dining gratuities and put that towards the cost difference for the upgrade.

We had the same experience for our July 2008 Mexican Riviera cruise. The price difference for 4 of us in the room (2 adults and 2 kids, 11 & 14) was $700. For what we were already paying we grabbed the cat. 1.
