I am sorry you had such a difficult moment. Rev. Jack was very accommodating to us when my mom passed unexpectedly 4 months before our wedding. I didn't know what to say, but I knew I wanted something special. He said a remembrance prayer that he came up with himself (I'm sure it's one he uses often) and it was very sweet and appropriate. I wouldn't want to make excuses for him, but he does so many weddings, he probably momentarily forgot. I'm sorry but I hope your day was still special and magical.gradtchr said:I really liked him and am glad that we booked him. However we had one problem. The week before the wedding my Granddad passed away so my DH and I decided we wanted a moment of silence while the violinist played Amazing Grace in his memory. Rev. Day said he had no problem with this and we talked about it even minutes before the ceremony started however once the ceremony started he skipped over this and even though the violinist was playing Amazing Grace he did not stop. I did not say anything then to pause or stop but looking back I wish I had because it was so important to me. There were also pieces added into our vows that I had not chosen to be read. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely book him but if you are doing something out of the norm make sure he understands the importance.

First, he told us what to do during our ceremony, like when we had to light the unity candle we started to walk together, and he was like, no no no, you go this way, and you go that way. No one would've noticed the difference, i think he should've just let us do it however instead of making a big deal of it, and you can here him whispering on our video. And then after the ceremony i wanted to take my marriage license with me and file it myself, I wanted to know it was done and complete before we went out of the country for our Honeymoon. I asked him for it, and he gave me a hard time, I literally had to spened 20 minutes on the phone arguing with him about it.
Other than those two minor items he was great! I'd book him again..

I was very upset about the marriage license issue because he was arguing with my Mom at our reception and I had no idea until after the wedding! My Mom was shocked and didn't know what to say...she was like it's my daughter's wedding...what's going on here!? It really upset her and she was approached without her knowing what was going on or happening. It was really wierd and un-called for. He could have handled the situation properly and after our wedding!
He told us nothing about what to do with the marriage license or what he would do with it, so we had a priority envelope ready to go and be mailed out the next day and he was mad at us...but I didn't know about it and he decided to deal with my Mom...why? I have no idea!!
Also...he talked through the whole ceremony and it is in the video telling us what to do...like after he announced "Mr. & Mrs. Daniel Gravel"...he says "Now, turn around and face the camera." He made comments like that for no reason...I mean obviously we are going to turn around and walk down the aisle. He did that a lot and we had mic problems at the beginning for the video and he stopped our ceremony and walked to the side for a few mins, while we stood there...it ruined the mood! Then, he pushed us to the side a couple times because we weren't standing perfectly for the video.
I felt like he was more concerned with how we looked for the video, but all that is heard and shows up on the video...so it took away from the ceremony there...plus, on the video!
He also left the wedding/reception without saying good-bye to anyone and never approached my husband and I after the ceremony...we were shocked that he just disappeared!
I really enjoyed him a great deal up until the actual wedding ceremony...then I was disappointed.

I thought he gave it to him, he thought I had it.. He just took it and didn't tell us anything, so that evening it was an argument, i basically told him that it was my wedding, my name is on the license and to give it back. he said he was worried about me losing it. then he tried to say that he didn't know when he would get it to me, we were in disney for 3 more days, so he finally agreed to leave it at the WP. I was so frustrated, that i wanted to cancel the check we wrote to him!
The video is upsetting, we have the same problems with it, you can hear him saying "now move back" "now put the ring on her finger", etc. etc, we have the same thing, "turn around and face the cameras" and then, he told my MOH during the rehearsal that she would need to "fluff fluff fluff" my dress, she knew that, and she took her job seriously to make sure i looked great at all times, but he kept saying that at the actual ceremony, I don't need to hear "fluff fluff fluff" on my video.
TessRC said:I'm really surprised no one else had our problem. About a week before the wedding I sent Rev. Jack Day an email confirming the rehearsal, etc., and got an email that gee, he hates to tell me this, but his price went up $50. I was furious since I had already signed a contract and had a copy of it, can you imagine if all the vendors said, gee, sorry, but their prices went up a week before your wedding??? I replied that we had the copy of the contract stating our price and that that was all I had budgeted for the ceremony, so if it is a problem please let me know right away so we can make arrangements with another officiant. I got a nice email back saying no problem, the original agreement was fine, come on down to Florida.
At the rehearsal the day before the wedding, Rev. Jack grabs my arm and pulls me over to him away from everyone else. He opens his Bible and has our contract inside of it, and crossed out our original price and wrote a new price that was $50 higher in red over it! My husband thought it was odd he grabbed me and pulled me aside so he came over, and Rev. Jack told us he had just raised his rates a month ago and this was his new rate, but to do whatever made us comfortable. It made me comfortable to pay the rate I originally agreed upon and take his tip out of the envelope! I was really disappointed an officiant would be so greedy.
