Booked August flights.

Decided to book our flights tonight. Maybe paid a little OTT but they are perfect timings plus we get immigration done in Dublin (I hate MCO immigration)

Aer Lingus Manchester to Orlando (Via Dublin) 1st August
Aer Lingus Boston to Manchester (Via Shannon) 25th August.

Glad you got sorted out. We didn't have this problem as we are off to the West Coast this year courtesy of Avios, so flights have been booked since last September!!! One thing that has always put me off the Air Lingus flights is that on the return, there is usually a 5-6 hour layover in Dublin for the Manchester flight - is it the same from Boston or does this flight allow you to catch a morning Manchester flight?

A tip I received off Trip Advisor was to stay near the Prudential Centre. Its a great base for a short stay as it has a stop right outside for the Trolley Bus and the Duck Tour which I think we are going to do both of. Theres also a Cheesecake Factory there which gets reviews as good as the one at Millenia Mall. We would have liked to stay a little longer and pop across to Marthas Vineyard (love the Jaws films) but dont think we'll get there this time. :)

We stayed at the Sheraton on Back Bay back in 2011, booked for £80/night through Priceline (very little risk as at the time, betterbidding.com advised there were only two hotels of that star rating and location!!). Location wise, about a 20 minute walk to the harbour, an easy stroll to the Common, right by the Prudential Centre and the Cheesecake Factory, and loads of restaurants on nearby Boyleston Street.

We did the Duck Tour which we all thought was really good, also went up the Prudential Skywalk at sunset, visited the Aquarium (not too impressed with this) and spent a full day at the Museum of Science and Industry. We used a Go Select Card that allowed us to pick and choose our atractions but still gave us a useful discount and skip the line at the Aquarium and Museum.

Hi Tony.
Really good flight times, 3hr 40mins which will be perfect to do immigration then have brunch as there is no meal on the transatlantic flight. Coming home 1 hr.
Threads I have read recently have been quoting upto 3 hours for immigration at MCO so glad I am avoiding that.

You will get dinner on the dublin to Orlando flight normally a choice between chicken or beef and then you get a scone that comes with jam and butter about an hour before you land :)

Just read on another thread, I thought the food option was meal or nothing, didn't know it was for a meal upgrade.:rotfl2:
We will probably still eat in the airport and not eat onboard.:goodvibes

Hey Wayne,

Just a heads up not sure if you have flown via Dublin before but if eating in the airport get something to eat before immigration!! We got caught out last time and wanted immigration out the way before considering food!!! There is only 1 choice after immigration and it was ridiculously expensive (more so than usual) and only sold 1 slice of pizza or soup tea and coffee from memory. We got duped and ended up paying something like ¬9 for that slice of pizza each!!!! More choice on other side e.g Burger King KFC cafes subway etc all the usuals

Hope this helps
Jenn

Thanks for that, first time via dublin so we would have done immigration before eating. :thumbsup2

I'm confused about immigration.... I though you had to go through immigration at your first port of call in the US. So if you fly indirect it would be immigration in the first US stop regardless of the country you have stopped in previously (as it's not in the US) so I though if we flew via Dublin or Paris we'd still do immigration at the first US stop??

I know I must be wrong *** Wayne knows his stuff but I'm confused as to why you can go into America without completing their immigration?

Still to book hotel for our last 9 nights at Easter yet. Not thought about August.
Easter might be the Fairfield Inn (Marriott Village) again but its £45+/nt, never paid so much before:rotfl:
I can get this at £29/nt http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_...ion_Center_Westwood_Blvd-Orlando_Florida.html
Or BW Lakeside at about £20/nt but Karen wants to stay around LBV.
2-3 of the DTD hotels are similar price to Fairfield but then possibly resort fees, parking, internet, breakfast all ontop.
I still have 4 weeks to decide:rotfl2:

i really hate the hotels with all the add on fees....
they're so misleading...you think you're getting a good rate and then you're really shocked....
and what exactly is a "resort fee"? You "HAVE to pay it....it's not optional...
it's such fraud to not include it in the regular price..

Never paid a resort fee yet, I won't book anywhere there is a chance of one being added.

I ended up booking 1 night free using AA Airmiles at the Clarion Inn lbv (with breakfast, I didn't expect) then 8 nights at Fairfield Inn LBV, cost me £43/nt with British Airways, at least I know everything is included there. Every other site wanted £70-90/nt so £43 is fair enough.

i've had to stay at those resort fee hotels when i've attended conferences.
It is beyond irritating!!!
i can't remember the name of the one we were at - one of the hotels in hotel plaza - right across from DTD and saratoga springs.
That one was so bad!!!
and we had a special conference rate. What a lie. It was $159 and then on top of that was a resort fee!!
what a rip off.

This past year the conference was at the hyatt grand cypress - i can't remember if there was a resort fee there or not.

It does, although when we stayed there it was prepaid as we booked through VH for our wedding.

Great hotel as I've said before :)

as for hotels - i think we're going to go offsite - the onsite hotels have priced themselves out for me....(unless i can get an AP rate closer to the date of the trip)..
i'm not going to reserve anything yet, but i was checking prices out of curiousity..
looking at expedia....for our dates, i get the following:
Clarion Inn LBV - $66/night
Fairfield Inn & Suites LBV marriot village - $69/night
Best Western LBV - $71/night
Spring Hill Suites LBV marriot village - $74/night

anyone have an opinion on any of those?

Wouldn't mind staying there but out of my price bracket for a hotel in Orlando, cheapest I could find for 8th-15th April was £139/nt (less Quidco)

Values are not too bad for our August trip, under £60/nt incl tax. Considering it includes free parking at the parks they are OK but I am not a fan myself, would have to be Moderate at least for me.

Been looking at the Marriott summer deals but I always find cheaper thru agents nearer the time.
Saw a few good deals for August but not where we want, Extended Suites Deluxe near Seaworld, £28/nt inclusive. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUs...ion_Center_Westwood_Blvd-Orlando_Florida.html
Homewood Suites by Hilton on Idrive, £44/nt inclusive (include breakfast & managers reception 4 days a week with food and beer/wine) http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_..._Drive_Convention_Center-Orlando_Florida.html

you found the values at £60/nt incl tax????
the cheapest i can find is £72 not including tax (and tax is probably another £15 or so at least).
and that's at the value that i like least (sport)..
pop century is £80 and art of animation is £82 - and both are before tax.
