Not Disney, BTW. Still several weeks out. With tax, the new rate represents about $80 in savings.

So, just cancel & rebook online again?

Or, pick up the phone and ask for new rate?

I'd book a room at the new rate, and then cancel the original reservation.

If you booked through a third party website like Expedia, you would definitely need to cancel.

My BF made a reservation through Expedia and when we got to the hotel, we were offered a cheaper price of about 20 dollars a night. So he agreed. Only to find out both Expedia AND the hotel had charged his credit card.

We were not happy campers, especially since the $20 cheaper room meant we were facing a bar. And while we were able to remove the hotel's charge, we still had to pay the Expedia price but couldn't move to a new room.

*grump*

I always book at the new rate, wait to make sure I get my e-mail confirmation, then cancel the original reservation. In fact, I did that this afternoon.

PSA most hotels are not allowed to just cancel,/ change 3rd party travel reservations. Hotels are under contract with 3rd party sites. most hotel software is written to not allow avg desk clerks to make those changes. You must cancel that reservation thru 3rd party

trust me on this one I work at two different hotels:thumbsup2

Call the hotel and ask them to alter your original reservation. I had this experience with Marriott in DC and had no problems getting the reservation adjusted. Saved us about $60

I would call the hotel first-and see what they are willing to do. I just made reservations with 2 national chains, both had it written into the reservation agreements that if I found a lower rate for the same type of room/date they would match it.

I would always call first. I'd be paranoid that for some reason after making the second reservation, I wouldn't be able to cancel the first. No harm in calling an asking.

Yep, we learned the hard way!! The clerk was new and didn't realize what was going on and only wanted to give us a better deal.

I wasn't too impressed with that hotel, in any case. That bar was SUPER loud.

Make sure you read the fine print and are able to change/cancel with no fees before you do anything!

Agree, I do this often after making sure either can be cancelled (which you noted already done)

Gumbo4x4-glad this worked out for you!

I was randomly looking at our hotel's website ~ 2 weeks prior to a stay in NYC about 1.5 years ago, and the rate had dropped about $70/night, I rebooked under DH's name, and once I got the confirmation, cancelled the reservation under my name. We were only staying 3 nights, so the savings was $210, not too bad if I do say so myself. :thumbsup2

Done. Saved $73.81 over 5 nights AND picked up 2 free breakfasts per day. Every little bit helps!
