Can we book a verandah, then if the Concierge is still available a month later upgrade?
I'll have enough to book the verandah by Agust, but won't have the rest of it until Sept - and I don't want to miss out on the veranda, which is about as low as we want to go.

Yes, as soon as you book, you lock in the price (for that certain cruise!) and you can up or down grade for the price when you originally booked. Just know, if you upgrade to concierge, you're deposit become non refundable

That's fine - no intention of not going so we wont need a refund! =)
Does that mean that if the price of concierge goes up between Agust and Sept - we upgrade for the price concierge was when we booked Veranda? And the price to upgrade will be 20% of whatever conceirge price is - our downpayment we already paid right?

As long as you will be fine in “just” a veranda cabin if Concierge sells out, no problem.

If Concierge selling out before you can upgrade will ruin the cruise, I would just book Concierge to begin with.

Nah, Veranda is the lowest we wanna go, but it works for us =)
That said, if Concierge is sold out, can we take our downpayment and move it to another cruise? Because our next "want" was the seven day instead of the 4 but wife and I chose to give up 3 days to do coneirge followed by Disneyland for the first time.

Yes, you can.
Please also budget for the gratuities. If you already have trouble paying the down payment (of concierge) now, make sure you only upgrade if you will also have enough for that!

Oh hun, I have problems with the downpayment because it's such short notice - we don't sail for another year and 3 months, plenty of time to save up money.
We always tip - and are big believers in if you can't tip - you can't afford it. But until 4 days ago I didn't even think there were Disney Cruises out of San Diego. We haven't sailed in five years because we weren't ready to fly back to Port Canaveral. + To be fair there is also a HUGE difference between our monthly pay and our pay with Christmas Bonus in December. We'll be putting 2/3 of our Christmas Bonus and all of or at least half of our Tax money on the cruise. Well, the Cruise in Sept and the Del Coronado for a couple of days in San Diego in May

A couple of items to consider.

It might be helpful to determine what are the absolutes. Do you really want to sail concierge? Do you have to sail on those dates?

If you really want to sail concierge then it might be better to wait and book at release. You are likely going to spend more by waiting so any benefit in holding off for the down payment will likely end up costing you more.

If you are booking and then upgrading the only chance to upgrade at a discount is at the port (if it is available). If you upgrade at anytime before the cruise day you will be paying the full cost. Since the rooms typically go up in price, especially with concierge, the best price is usually the first day or as early as possible. Here is a price graph for a 4 day on the Wonder in Cat T for October 2020.

The veranda is our absolute, concierge is a nice to have, BUT if the concierge is gone by Late August, then a seven day can be had for the same price as the concierge, still w Veranda.
I refuse to wait any longer than Sept to finally go on vacation after a 5-year vacation drought, and Sept is the first time I can sail out of San Diego after we will be able to pay in full (In March).
And the only benefit I'm looking for in waiting - is the time table to actually have the 1k in full to put down, which will take us roughly 3 months - again that is BEFORE Christmas Bonus & Taxes come in, so yes I am sure I can really afford this.

Honestly if you want Concierge, I would just book that and not run the risk of it selling out. Because it sounds like you only want Concierge and will not be happy if you are not in that.

Yes, you can move it to another cruise. Be aware, however, unlike remaining on the same cruise getting you the same price as the day you make the original booking, the new cruise will be at the prevailing rate.
