I'm getting ready to settle in for Fall :). Well not really but I do love to sit back and read a lot more in the winter.

I really love a good novel. I tend to lean towards romantic ( nothing trashy) , historicals, and comedy.

Does anyone have any good books that they've read lately?

Thanks :)

I just went through a Dan Brown phase now I'm back into Nicholas Sparks. I'm really enjoying The Guardian so far.

I also really enjoyed the Left Behind series. Its 12 books so that should keep you occupied for a while.

I just read the new book from the same author that wrote The Devil wears Prada. I think the title was Nobody worth knowing or something like that.

It was a pretty interesting book. I just finished it today.

I also read a very intriuging book about Deep Throat and a book about Kent State shootings.

The Sunflower, can't remember the author. He was the Christmas Box guy. Also have almost finished Angels in the Gloom by Anne Perry.

I forgot the authors name, but I really enjoyed Birth of Venus. It's historical fiction.

Romantic-Nights In Rodanth-Nicholas Sparks
Historical-Animal Farm-Orwell
I don't read much comedy, so I don't know too much about that.

I am also reading Wicked, Life And Times Of The Wicked Witch Of The West. I LOVE IT! The sequel is out now, Son Of A Witch.

Oh, I want to read that one! I loved The Devil...

Was it a quick read or did you get bogged down? (i.e. define interesting...)

I suggest Memoirs of a Geisha, books by Fannie Flagg and The Shopaholic books.

If you like historic fiction or Victorian fiction, I have a recommendation for a really great non-fiction book. I stumbled across it at the library a few weeks ago, and it was amazing. It's called Inside the Victorian Home: A Portrait of Domestic Life in Victorian England. It's by Judith Flanders. The book describes daily life for the middle class in Victorian England, and it's incredibly interesting. I couldn't put it down.

Now that I've read it, I want to go back and read all of my favorite novels written in the Victorian era to see if I can pick up on details I overlooked before.

I just read Timeline by Michael Crichton. The movie was unwatchable, but the book was entertaining.

Funny Farm was funny.

I love to read. I read all the time. :) :cool1: yay books! :cheer2:

I love to read, too. I average 4 -5 books a week. Sometimes they are just fluff, though.

I am reading a 2005 mystery by Mary Higgins Clark called No Place Like Home. The book takes place in my own town! The author uses many real places I know for parts of the action to take place, like my own church, high school, and coffee shop. She also uses real houses in town for the characters to live in - one of which was built by my great great grandpa! And so far in the book, three different people have been murdered in my town! Ack!!! :teeth: But thank goodness, this is a work of fiction! Overall, I can't wait to finish it! :)

OMG The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (sp?) covers both romance & history! They are all incredible books but the first one is outstanding! Also, I have to say The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Once again romance & history!

Time Traveler's Wife is really good, there are a few graphic scenes but the characters, romance and story make it hard to put down.

Another new favorite is Lorna Landvik, I've read Patty Jane's House of Curl & Oh My Stars both really good stories with quirky characters.

It was a quick read . I finished it in one day. I say interesting because some of the shallow characters got on my nerves very quickly. I just wanted to shout at them "You're ruining your life! STOP!"

The main character was good and well defined, seemingly intelligent, but got herself in some situations that seemed pretty obvious to me.. But when the character was conflicted about these situations I would get irritated and say "Well.. you knew that was coming!" to myself.

(See I get into my books.)

I did enjoy it, and laughed out loud. Some of the situations were pretty funny and the night life scenes were well, eye opening.

I read pretty serious books most of the time, so this was a fluffier book for me. I did enjoy it and I never read the Prada book.

I did like Time Travelers Wife as well. I didn't think it was that graphic though... I thought the premise of the book was really intriuging.

Some other books that are ones of a series that I like are

The mystery/adventures by Laurie R. King. The BeeKeepers Apprentice was the first one I read. They are about a woman who befriends Sherlock Holmes in his older years. Very good if you like murder mystery type stories.

Another author I like is Nevada Barr. She has written several mystery/adventure stories about a character called Anna Pigeon, who is a park ranger and they take place in the various National Parks. Again, very good if you enjoy this genre.

I recommend working your way down the bestseller list. It is pretty rare for me to have actually read and enjoyed more than one of the top 20 bestsellers, but it's one of those rare times.

The Da Vinci Code
Dan Brown

The Historian
Elizabeth Kostova

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter #6)
J. K. Rowling

I also recommend the Outlander series. They just released the 6th book in the series and they are all around 1000 pages so they will keep you occupied for a while.
