Book Hire Car - Now Or Later?

I NEED TO BOOK A HIRE CAR FOR OUR HOLIDAY IN FEBUARY AND BEEN QUOTED AROUND £320 - £340 FROM VARIOUS COMPANYS FOR AN INTERMIDIATE. SHOULD I BOOK NOW OR LEAVE IT A LITTLE LONGER AND SEE IF THERE ARE ANY SPECIAL OFFERS. I WOULD PREFER TO BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP FROM THE AIRPORT RATHER THAN OFFSITE.

Hi Balloonman

We've always booked our car at the time of booking our holiday, so I cant help with your query - I do know that one time we went, with Virgin - and our car hire was booked with Dollar, and by the time we got to pick up our car, (we were last of the plane because I wasnt feeling too well, and after a visit to the restrooms, a coffee and rest) the Parking Lot was empty and they only had one car left, which was about three upgrades from what we had booked, they had no choice but to let us have it! What I am saying is, if you take a chance and leave it till you get there - there is a small chance that there might not be any cars available.

We waited to hire in Orlando one year, but not from the airport so this might not be applicable to your intentions.

We only wanted a car for a few days and arranged it from the hotel after we'd spent a night or two there. It turned out to cost us a lot more than if we'd pre-arranged everything over here.

Maybe we were just unlucky / ill-informed, but we wouldn't do it like that again!
