Book at Home resort and switch to another at 7mo window?

We're thinking of going to Vero next July. MS said Vero really packs up in the summer and recommended booking day by day. My concern is that if we can't get Vero at 7 mos. the odds of getting our home BCV as a backup at 7 mos. is slim.

Can we book BCV at 11 mos and switch to Vero at 7 mos. BCV will be more points so what happens to the extra points?

I just want to make sure we have something for next year.

Yes - many of us book our home resort at 11 months and then switch at 7 months. By doing so, we know we will definitely have a place to stay if the non-home resort reservation doesn't work out.

The "extra/freed up" points are returned to your account. If you are within your banking deadlines, you may bank any current year points. If the "freed up" points were borrowed or banked points, they will still be considered banked or borrowed and will expire at the end of the use year.
