I have an opportunity to stay next week at either Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter for five nights for $1,306 or at Wyndham Bonnet Creek in a 1 bedroom for $1,000.

We have stayed at Bonnet Creek over a dozen times and we enjoy the size of the unit with a full kitchen, living area, large balcony, and interior walkways.

However, it's not a Disney Resort. There is no quick service, there's no Disney gift shop, etc. The room would only be for my wife, 8 year old son, and myself. We've never stayed at a moderate but our experience at all star movies was a "never again" sort of deal because of the condition and size of the room. Have you had comfortable and enjoyable trips at Port Orleans or do you often wish you went for a larger room?

Absolutely love both POFQ and RS. The rooms are definitely bigger than the sstandard value resorts. If we don’t stay at a deluxe or DVC, French Quarter is our go-to resort because of its smaller size with Riverside our second. We have stayed at Bonnet Creek but would choose either of these WDW resorts for the theming, transportation options, etc.

I’m not sure how big the Bonnet Creek room size is, but AllStar Movies is about 260 square feet, while Riverside / French Quarter rooms are 314 square feet. A bit bigger, yes, but not really a significant difference IMO. I’d assume a Bonnet Creek room would be at least 400 square feet with a full kitchen. So I think you’d still find the moderates on the smaller size.

That being said, we’ve stayed at all levels of hotels at Disney and love them all. The smaller sized value rooms are fine for us. So a bigger room doesnt make a difference to us.

I've stayed all the moderates with many times at POR. FQ we won't go back and I've stayed at WBC several times in both one and two bedroom units. (I currently stay often in Marriott Vacation Clubs so comparable to WBC). No idea when these resorts were last renovated.

POR ~
Room will be slightly bigger than a value but the difference feels minimal with some of that extra space just a bigger bath area. Yes you have a good foot court and decent sized store. Boatrights has always been good when we have gone and we enjoy the Yeehah Bob show. You have very simple transportation in relation to WBC if using buses. It is a pretty resort to walk around which is nice to do since you will have no outside area.

POFQ ~ Moderate prices for more of a value resort. No TS restaurant, small shop and the pool amenities are not wow. It doesn't feel like a moderate resort. Close rooms to one stop are nice but there are rooms that are not close. We've almost always shared buses with POR. Plus here and POR is the boat to Disney Springs.

WBC ~ The space can not be beat, especially if you have any down time. At 812-900 sf, they are 3x bigger than a moderate. You are familiar with the complex so I will say pools hands down better at WBC, laundry in unit huge so I pack less and we do breakfasts in room and have extra food to save some costs. Balcony you won't have at moderate and we enjoyed those. I drive to the parks from WBC and park free (AP) so transportation at both options doesn't matter to me.
.
THAT ALL SAID ~ go with your gut. If you want to try POR go for it. I would stay there and then wander over to FQ to see if it sparks anything. At this point the price difference isn't huge like it might be another time when you look. While these days I prefer the space, the laundry, the kitchen ..... next trip is just two of us and I'm doing ASSports. It was a great rate and with winter could care less about the pools. We've stayed so many places and when a good rate pops up, am often willing to try something new.

Like you, we’ve stayed at WBC many times.

But to me the answer is obvious.

You’ve never stayed at a Moderate and I’m a big fan of trying some place new to stay.

Since your 8 yo will be with you, I suggest going with POR since they have the better pool and larger food court. (Assuming your son likes pools.)

Hey thanks for the feedback! It might be too cold to swim next week with only a few hours of temps in the low 70s all week from what I can tell. I'm envisioning our son getting potato chips all over the bed and not having our room cleaned except for once every two days. I wish we could get the ambiance of POFQ without the cramped room.

I would go with POR. IMO that size room is doable with 3 people. We used to do it when my kids were that age and younger. But my kids can sleep through anything so we weren’t tied to their schedules in such a small space.
