A few years ago, before going on our first cruise, I had learned that PREVENTING seasickness is much easier and better than trying to TREAT it once it hits you. It's strongly recommended to take Bonine (meclazine) the day before your cruise, and take 1 tablet every day that you're on the cruise, in order to prevent seasickness.
We've done this on every cruise and never been bothered with nausea or any other seasickness symtoms, and this includes going on a Bermuda cruise which is notorious for rough seas in the Atlantic Ocean, and also being on board the Magic through Hurricane Frances last year. Although we had no bad weather at all during our cruise, we definitely hit rough seas on that last day as we were heading back to Florida.
What we do is, each morning with breakfast I handed out 1 tablet to each of us, and that was it. We still had alcoholic drinks each day (not excessively though!) and it never made us drowsy or anything.
If you've never taken it before, you might want to test it out at home, take it one morning and see how it effects you.
I've also read that they have it available at the medical center on the ships, but since I've always brought my own, I never checked it out.
I hope you have smooth sailing!
P.S. We've also never experienced the dizziness or wobbly legs that a lot of people experience once they're back on land after the cruise, so that's another advantage to taking Bonine regularly during your cruise.
P.P.S. I just want to say, I think everyone should check with their own doctors before taking ANYTHING, just to make sure there will be no drug interactions or anything!!! I called our doctor and our DSs' pediatrician before the cruise and they both told me it was fine for DH and I (DH is diabetic, I take high blood pressure medication), and for DSs to take.
