I thought I remembered someone telling me that there is a container outside of "sick bay" (for lack of a better word) that you can just grab Bonine to use on the cruise? Is this true... or legend?<G> I will be bringing a few packets of the non drowsy dramamine on the cruise but our group is 3 staterooms, 7 people. Just wondered if I should pick up more before we leave next week. Thanks!

I thought that what they had outside the medical office was dramamine or
something similar, but it was the drowsy kind. I wouldn't want to take that.
I always keep bonine with me and I never feel sleepy or drugged when taking it. I wasn't sure if I would feel seasick or not on our first cruise, since sometimes it isn't so bad but I didn't want to chance it and ruin my vacation so I just took a precautionary one everyday and I was fine.

On our last cruise (Wonder last June), we ran out of bonine on our last day. As luck would have it, that night my wife was feeling a bit queasy, so having heard the same rumor about dramamine outside of the medical center, I swung by there to take a look. I didn't see anything there...Fortunately, my wife made it through the night without too much trouble.

So, my advice would be not to take a chance and have a bit extra. If you can find the generic (Meclizine), it is much cheaper. I just bought a 100-tablet bottle of it from drugstore.com for $8.99! That won't even buy two little tubes of the non-drowsy dramamine at my local store!

Have a great cruise! :earsboy:

A few years ago, before going on our first cruise, I had learned that PREVENTING seasickness is much easier and better than trying to TREAT it once it hits you. It's strongly recommended to take Bonine (meclazine) the day before your cruise, and take 1 tablet every day that you're on the cruise, in order to prevent seasickness.

We've done this on every cruise and never been bothered with nausea or any other seasickness symtoms, and this includes going on a Bermuda cruise which is notorious for rough seas in the Atlantic Ocean, and also being on board the Magic through Hurricane Frances last year. Although we had no bad weather at all during our cruise, we definitely hit rough seas on that last day as we were heading back to Florida.

What we do is, each morning with breakfast I handed out 1 tablet to each of us, and that was it. We still had alcoholic drinks each day (not excessively though!) and it never made us drowsy or anything.

If you've never taken it before, you might want to test it out at home, take it one morning and see how it effects you.

I've also read that they have it available at the medical center on the ships, but since I've always brought my own, I never checked it out.

I hope you have smooth sailing! :boat: :sunny:

P.S. We've also never experienced the dizziness or wobbly legs that a lot of people experience once they're back on land after the cruise, so that's another advantage to taking Bonine regularly during your cruise.

P.P.S. I just want to say, I think everyone should check with their own doctors before taking ANYTHING, just to make sure there will be no drug interactions or anything!!! I called our doctor and our DSs' pediatrician before the cruise and they both told me it was fine for DH and I (DH is diabetic, I take high blood pressure medication), and for DSs to take. :)

Thanks everyone for their great advice! Now I wish I had picked up more packets of the non-drowsy Dramamine! I got them on clearance at Target for .68 cents for a packet of 2. I will pick up some Bonine though.... DH, DD, DM and I have cruised before (daughter and DH took the Bonine one day I think), but my DB, DSIL and DN haven't cruised before although they are avid boaters<G> A week from today we head for WDW. I am SOOOOO excited!
