Bombshell Obama Pastor Video

There is nothing he can do that will satisfy some folks. So make an explanation, then move on.

Whoever the Democrats nominate will be subject to this sort of tactic. There will be attack after attack. Heck, Republicans managed to attack John Kerry for receiving a Purple Heart. One of Kerry's big mistakes was allowing the campaigned to be sidetracked. There's nothing you can say to placate folks who would mock a Purple Heart.

Instead, Obama should spend as much time as possible talking about what he will do as President.

You are seriously missing the big picture. This isn't just about Republicans or people who would never have supported Obama. You are doing yourself and your party and huge disservice if you cannot see that this goes beyond party affiliation. I am not trying to persuade you to change your opinion of Obama.

You know what, I'm not trying to debate individual candidate's policy issues here.
Which I think is the whole point of these issues - to distract from real policy.

we are addressing how Obama's association with his minister will impact him,
And I'm still curious on how it will impact him and the job he will do as president. Do you have an answer?

If you really support Obama, then you need to accept that and hope he gets busy and is able to effectively get a handle on this situation.
As soon as he gets a handle on this situation, there will be attacks for something else. Maybe they will go back to the "he's a Muslim" attack. Maybe something new. But there is absolutely *nothing* he or any other Democrat can do to end the attacks. If we wastes all his time stamping out the attacks, he won't be telling folks what he's going to do as President (which, I suspect is the whole point). The more he talks about what he's going to do as president, the more folks will want to vote for him.

I'm not saying Obama should ignore the issue. But he needs to get an answer out there, then move on.

Comparing Ferraro-gate to this development doesn't surprise me, interesting that while Ferraro was working for her consistuents & for equal rights & for minority rights for the past 25 years, Mr. & Mrs. BO have been sitting in the pew listening to this:

I am not willing to pass judgement on a 40 year ministry solely on 2 minute sound bites.....

Exactly. If this minsiter was saying those same sound bites over and over again for 20 years, then that would be different.

So, who can give me the link with 20 years of this man's sermons so I can know that he was saying these things over and over again like so many are assuming?

Do you honestly not see the difference? The two situations would only be comparable if Hillary had heard the comments, and then came back to hear more...for 20 years!

Who knows what kind of racial girl-talk Hill and Gerry have discussed over the years? If you've got tapes, basas, I'm sure ABC/FNC/CBS, etc. would be very interested...

All I know is that IRL all of the people I know that are saying Obama's wife or preacher are making racist comments & that is why they wouldn't vote for him are full of it! They wouldn't vote for him anyway because he is black.
I listened to what the preacher was saying & I don't think anything was too offensive.
I also wasn't offended by the comment his wife made about not having been proud of her country before.
Honestly if my children had never seen a white president in their history books I would probably feel the same way.
My first grader was in the kitchen the other day & there was a newspaper w/ McCain & Obama on the front. I asked him who he thought was going to be the next president..he pointed to McCain. Now Obama was smiling & McCain was not & I thought Obabma looked much more friendly so I asked him why he picked McCain. He said he just looks like a president. Now my son has an awesome teacher who is black, a principal who is black, friends of all different skin color & a cousin who is black, so he was just referring to his knowledge of presidents.
I hope that one day soon school children around the country can have another image of our leader besides an old white man, be it a black man, a woman,...who knows?:thumbsup2

not to derail your theory buy my 4 year old much to my die-hard conservative chagrin says Hillary is going to be the next President.

Take as a sign that your DD sees herself growing up to be President one day.

We don't know what sermons the Obamas have been listening to. I imagine since entering state and national politics, Barack hasn't been able to attend many. I certainly don't blame Obama for what his pastor says when he's not there to hear it. But he should boot the Rev. from his campaign.

No matter which candidate we were talking about, I would have a hard time believing he or she is completely in agreement with everything his or her pastor believes. All of them are strong-minded people.

I have a lot of respect for Ferraro, but her recent comments were pretty stupid. A lot of women use their sex as an excuse for why they don't excel in the way they want to. It's a defeatist attitude that annoys the heck out of me.

And on that same note, you've got to understand that people have different opinions on crisis management as well. Time will tell as to how, if at all, this will effect the presidential race...

I agree. He did support his minister to the extent that he chose him as his spiritual mentor. That is an action that for many will speak louder than all of his eloquent speeches.

You have your own set of criteria to judge a person on, but just be aware that for many this is something they will find very objectionable.

Didn't he also "support" the minister & his church financially? How many tens of thousands of dollars of "charitible" contributions have the Obama made over the past 20 years?

Did he deduct them on his taxes? Are we all (have we all) then been subsidizing this nutjob?

You are seriously missing the big picture.
I get the big picture. The question is what to do about it.

We had a poster here who mentioned that just the fact that the word Farrakhan came up in conversation made them wary to vote for Obama. How do you deal with that? The more Obama talks about it, the more trouble it causes.

It's like the old Far Side Cartoon:

What Obama says: "I decry racism and anti-Semitism in every form and strongly condemn the anti-Semitic statements made by Minister Farrakhan,"

What some folks here: blah blah blah blah blah blah blah FARRAKHAN!!!!!

There are folks out there who don't associate with a party. I want them to think, "Obama sure spends a lot of time talking about how to get out of Iraq, what to do for the economy, etc." It's not going to help Obama for them to think "Obama sure spends a lot of time talking about Farrakhan."

Obama has rejected the ideas that disgust you.

Obama? Doesn't hold the believe that disgust you
This other guy? Does

Obama? Running for president?
This other guy? Not running for president

no he has not "rejected" the ideas unless there has been an updated statement from him. He said he didn't agree with everything. He never got specific.

Who knows WHAT Obama believes? Would you sit in a church with the same pastor for TWENTY years who's made outrageous statements time and time again if you found them to be offensive? would you ask him to marry you? baptize your children? ask him to serve on your African American Council for your campaign? call him your moral compass? This is one of thsoe do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do situations, Obama's actions and his support of this man and this church for over twenty years speak to his true feelings, not a few "this is my crazy uncle" kind of press releases are going to change the facts of their relationship.

have you gone to the churches website to see all of their ministries....
donations to the church have gone for Many various ministries.....from grief counseling to yoga classes.... many wonderful programs......the obama's have nothing to be ashamed about in supporting these church programs...

You're wrong. I am not afraid of the issues. I know it's easy to trade jabs, but I am firm in the belief that both sides are confident where their candidate stands and that it is on the right side for what is important to them. I have no need to play diversionary games.

How can anyone know for certain how someone's life experiences will impact the tough decisions that they will make as President?? To me, Obama is increasingly becoming a man of smoke and mirrors. If I had been on the fence about him, I think I might feel more than just a bit disillusioned at this point.

Well his steadfast supporters had better hope that he has the ability to do both. No sense in whining about what boils down to politics as usual. Time will tell if he has the strength and tenacity to come out of this on the other side as a winner.

Haven't read every page, but I asked this same question on another thread; never did get an answer.

There is no excuse for the man to have attended a church for 20 years and listened to this garbage. The only reason would have to be that he agreed with it. He did not have to change relegions only churches. I cannot understand how anyone can continue to defend this. I mean maybe not change your support of him but at least start to question him a bit.

I can assure you, if I ever attended anything (and most especially a church) and heard this type of racial bashing; regardless of which race was being bashed, I would never go back. More than likely, I would get up and walk out, especially if I was going to be subjected to it for any real length of time.

I'm very disappointed in how Obama has responded to this and for him not to cut all ties to this man, bothers me. If this was Bush in 2000 and his church and Preacher was to have said this kind of hatred, it would have labeled hate and racism. Period. I was reading some comments that were left on the ABC news story about this and I thought I would share it. It really made sense to me and is how I feel.

If this isn't a wake up call to the voting electorate then I don't know what is. Barack - please explain the 20 year relationship, please explain why you choose to listen to his "spiritual" guidance, please explain how you, in your right mind, can allow your children to witness and hear his blasphemous statements, please explain how this ongoing relationship shows good judgement on your part, and please explain why I shouldn't let this sway my opinion as to your judgement and ability to lead this great nation. I am at a loss and your explanations are coming up far short of what's needed.

While recently called "racist" Geraldine Ferraro was actively fighting Aparteid during the 80's what was Obama doing???????:smokin:

We do know this because Obama is one of the Biggest Financial supporters of this church.

So one last time, you would have no problem if John Mc Cain had been seeking advice from and listening weekly and by choice to a KKK member for twenty years?

It will be interesting to see how it plays out with democrats in Penn (& FL, NC & MI).

Thanks for the comment on Ferraro. Being a man, I hadn't thought of that perspective. I agree her comment was clumsy at best & dumb at worst. She reminds me of my Mom (who isn't a racist, but definitely a pistol who puts her foot in her mouth at times) which is part of the reason i hate to see folks kicking her when she's down.
