Bomb at Disney Orlando

Just heard on the Saint Louis Radio Station a bomb went off in the parking lot of Orlando Fl Disney. Has anyone heard anything more???

yes, thanks. I see someone posted that it was actually a trash can fire and no one was injured. If it had been any kind of a bomb and gone off, it would have been all over the national news.

It was listed as a pipe bomb on this mornings news...they did not go into detail but said it was a pipe bomb and that it went off.

It looks like those news reports are now backing off and now categorizing the event as a "suspicious incident" with no explosions or injuries, simply smoke from a dumpster. Here's a link to the Orlando Sentinel article:

WDW has been having severe problems with teenage kids hanging around and "gang-like" activity around D-Town Disney. Some kids have been banned for life and there is lot of security presence. My guess is that some kid who was thrown out for mis-behavior decided to get revenge.

Not only is this accurate, it's not anything new. Ever since Disney removed the entry fee to PI, that whole area of DTD has become a magnet for every piece of downscale Gen Y crap in Central Florida.

Disney itself hasn't helped things, by continually allowing certain clubs there to promote events like gangsta rap "concerts" by acts such as Three 6 Mafia (who perform family friendly material like ""It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp.")

Things have gotten so bad that Disney now regularly bolsters its own security in DTD with armed off-duty local deputies and other private-security officers. It's so nice to see all those guns at the primary nightlife attraction of the happiest place on earth.

With all due respect, did we read the same article? Nowhere in the article did it mention prank. I don't think anyone can say it is a prank. A BOMB IS A BOMB! For the head of Homeland Security to be involved atall, should be a clue to alot of people - Disney is not as much of a fantasyland as many believe. Disney properties are watched very closely, by both sides of the terror war. I hope they find the person/persons who made and detonated the bomb, and prosecute to the full extent of the law. Hopefully they can nail the person(s) on a federal level. I don't feel as this issue should be downplayed at all. This incident should serve as a walk up call. Does anyone in the NYC or Oklahoma City area feel as a bomb should be taken lightly? As I said above a bomb is a bomb. Maybe I am sensitive to this issue due to my proximity to the WTC along with mine and my loved ones involvement in the aftermath.

And since this is the cruise board, lets add that in too...Did anyone notice the extra security with the TA and inaguaral Med cruises? The Magic had escorts and shadows most days.

Pipe-bomb-like device goes off at Fla. Disney parking lot

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County deputies found a "low-level crude device" resembling a pipe bomb in a trash can at a Downtown Disney parking lot early today.


"Our investigators found end caps, which usually indicate a pipe-bomb-like device," said Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary at a news conference this morning. "We believe this was not designed to cause significant property damage or injuries."

In an earlier version of this story, Sheriff Beary incorrectly reported that the homemade device blew the doors off a dumpster in the popular tourist spot at Walt Disney World. No doors were blown off and the receptacle was a trash can, said Orange County spokesman Capt. Mark Strobridge.

Beary said security has been increased county-wide not just because of the suspicious incident, but also because of the recent terrorist activity overseas.

"Once we saw things unfolding in the U.K. and Glasgow, and the fact that it''s July 4th, we increased security," said Beary.

He added that "this is not connected to any sophisticated [terrorist] plot, either domestically or internationally."

A Disney security officer on bike patrol called deputies at about 12:30 a.m. he heard a noise and saw white smoke coming from a garbage can in a back lot at of Downtown Disney, said Disney spokeswoman Kim Prunty.

The garbage can is in the far lot behind the Cirque du Soleil theater, going toward the golf course at the Saratoga Springs Resort, Prunty said. There are no attractions or shops in that area.

When deputies arrived, they secured the area and later reported no damage or injuries.

"The only damage was to the garbage can," Prunty said.

Downtown Disney is a popular spot frequented by tourists and locals for its shopping and entertainment, but last week, some of its security policies came under fire.

Walt Disney World ejected four of Florida State University''s top football prospects — including the son of a Disney manager and the son of a Philadelphia civil-rights lawyer — from Downtown Disney under its anti-gang, no-loitering policy and banned them from entering the theme parks for life.

After Disney officials were questioned about security and the use of racial profiling to target and drive out minority youth, they decided to revise the trespass warnings so that the four are banned only from Downtown Disney for one year.

My friend use to be a security guard at WDW. His stories would make your head spin ! All I can say is that Disney is the master at making things disappear or never happen. It is what they do to make it the happest place on earth! Bravo Disney ........

There just one answer for this problem.

A 10 dollar parking fee for the car and again paying for entrance at PI.
Keeps a lot of the crap outside.

Btw parents that bring young children to PI to "chill out" at times children of that age should be in bed have to get a fee and real high one. Just put up enough camera’s to gard the safety of the real fans.

"Oscar" aside...I think it was more a comment on their content of music vs. Disney's family image..

I mean really with content like "Slob on my Knob, 2-Way Freak, Chickenhead,Face Down,Gangster Walk".....well you get the point.

Disney Security does not carry firearms. The deputies are actually ON DUTY, and are working overtime (overtime paid by Disney). The only people you should see carrying a gun there would be wearing a badge.

Well I have lived in Orlando for years and I can tell you that even if a ten megaton bomb went off in the castle within 24 hours Disney would have the local news broadcasting that it was a firecracker AND it happened at Universal... Disney owns Orlando/Kissimmee.

Oh, please, garbage is garbage, no matter how much one tries to to dress it up. You are implying that just because the Film Academy of Arts and Sciences gives an award to something means it has quality and was the best of the best of its era. Really? Here are some other Oscar winners that like "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" are textbook examples of weak fad du jours winning over substance:

1941: Citizen Kane is shut out of virtually every award (quick - what movie was the Best Film winner that year? Yes, it was that unforgettable work of art everyone has in their video library, Blossoms in the Dust)

1952: The Greatest Show on Earth -- a lightweight spectacle movie -- wins best film over the classics High Noon and The Quiet Man .

1968: Oliver -- a now hugely dated musical which I'm willing to bet 90% of those reading this thread have never even seen -- wins best film over the classic The Lion In Winter.

1976: Rocky wins best film (over the likes of Network, Taxi Driver and All the President's Men).

1998: the Best Picture Oscar goes to Shakespeare In Love instead of the clear masterpiece Saving Private Ryan.
