OK, what is FUFU? I'm thinking of trying this place, but my kid's are very picky when it comes to new things. Do they have the standard kid's food also?

Yes they do. They have killer breaded chicken strips and crispy breads that my very picky toddler tried. And the little desserts are just begging for kids to try them.

For breakfast they have a lovely yogurt dish and croissants that my toddler tried... as well as breakfast pizza that I would imagine kids in general would love.

That was my point earlier... I am sure anyone can find something here to love.

A note on the desserts... Boma does a cookie making event (daily?) for kids. They have this very unusual dessert on a triangle biscuit that they make. Once mine is older I am sure he would love it.

We have really enjoyed Boma in the past, we went there in August, and I was disapointed in the food. The prime rib was very very fatty. The soups were not great, and those were always my favorite, the rest of the food was just OK, not great as it had been in the past. I don't care for Zebra domes, so I will not comment on those, but I used to love their bread pudding and even that was just OK.
I know that the menu changes, so we might have one of the days that did not appeal to us as much.

My kids liked the fufu, and my DH liked the prime rib. We are very adventourous eaters and most of the Boma entrees were bland and unflavorful. We've had all sorts of international cuisines and it was ok, not full of spice and flavor.

This was a recent trip.. on 8/28.

The desserts were only ok as well. I'm glad we tried it once but I doubt we will be back.

Mine was a recent trip too.. 9/2 and again on 9/6. The food was an astronomical experience. It was not "just a buffet". I have eaten internationally as well and I found the food to be excellent. My husband is a spicy food fanatic and I saw him inhale deeply in pleasure over several dishes.

I am frankly surprised by the negative comments on this thread about Boma.

Where I found bland and cafeteria-style food was at Liberty Tree Tavern. Yuck... ain't going back there again.

We enjoy Boma enough that we try to eat there at least once each trip (our most recent visit was in May). It's loud, it's noisy, it can be a bit crowded, but the food is very good. I've eaten in some of the country's fanciest restaurants, and haven't had the urge to go back. We particularly enjoyed the tamarind glazed chicken, and were thrilled to discover a very similar sauce at our local grocery store (Wegman's, in the Indian Food section), so we can have a quick "taste" of Boma at home.

I have to agree with people about the Zebra Domes. They're good, but not great. I prefer the little fruit tarts!

My DH is allergic to crab meat, and our server was very good about showing him through the buffet and explaining what was in the various dishes.

If you're looking for a little "grown up alone time", stop at Victoria Falls (the bar right above Boma) and have a drink while you wait for dinner. After dinner, go outside and look at the animals. Stop to talk to the CM's there. They can explain all about the animals you're seeing.

Getting there is half the fun. We love to take the buses at WDW (yes, maybe we're a little odd). We take the first park bus which comes to our resort, and then switch at whatever park for a bus to the AKL. You get to see lots of WDW that way!

Fufu is a sweet potato mash (with a little white potato also), seasoned with allspice, lots of butter (yum), and brown sugar (I think, it might be maple syrup). It is really good.

Your picky kids should be fine. One of the buffet stations had all the usual kiddie favorites: mac and cheese, chicken fingers, noodles, etc. Adults were helping themselves from this station also, for any picky grown up eaters thinking about trying Boma.

How long does dinner usually take at Boma? We are on somewhat of a tight schedule and want to eat there, so need to know how much time to alot.

We had a very early dinner seating (like 5:30 or 6:00) and ended up waiting half an hour or so for a table. Its a buffet, so once you get seated you can control the pace - though its a fairly extensive buffet - 85 items or something - to do it justice you'll be making several trips (and perhaps leaving some things on your plate that aren't to your taste). It is also a little off the beaten track - depending on what is before and after on your schedule, AKL is not really close to much (its close to the AK, but it will still take five minutes or more to get there and park), so add in your transporation time - particularly if you don't have a car.

We were very disappointed. After the rave reviews I'd expect better than buffet food, and its really buffet food - many many choices, some unusual spices, but kept under a warmer not terribly fresh buffet food. I think we'd have enjoyed ourselves more had we had reasonable expectations. I'd gone with the expectation that Zebra Domes were the best dessert on property - I've started to wonder if the people who think that just don't have the same taste I do, or have had limited exposure to some of the great desserts out there, because I wouldn't have put them in the top ten. I'd gone anticipating the prime rib, but I've never had buffet prime rib that was really wonderful and I should have known better.

That said, its a good buffet - extensive and unusual. And the food is good quality - for a buffet.

My other complaint regarding Boma is that visiting the AKL is a fantastic experience, but its fairly off the beaten track. Unless you are staying at AKL or have a car, Boma can be difficult to get to. Even with a car, its less accessible than other choices on property.

I would like to jump in and ask another question. How long does it take to get to Boma's from the AK?? I had it planned that we would eat there after visiting the park. Can we walk from the park to the lodge or should we take the bus? Does the bus take long? Our ADR is at 5:00pm. We are staying at the POFQ. Is this alot of hoopla just so we can eat there??? Thanks and sorry for the slight twist in subject.

You can't walk from AK to the AKL! I wish you could but can't. You have to take the bus.

To be on the safe side (buses don't always come on schedule) you are going to want to be at the bus stop at least half an hour and possibly forty five minutes before your reservation. Another option is to hop in a cab - which likely won't be more than $7 or so. There are always cabs right there, and that way you can be walking out of AK at 4:45 and walking into Boma at 5:00.

Thanks Crisi and Cindy B!!! Now I know what to expect!! Sometimes I wonder if we should rent a van, but we're a large party of mostly adults--so who would get the van?? Anyways, thanks for the info!!

I just ate at Boma last week. It was around 9-9:30pm on a Wed. nite. I hate to say this...I was a little disappointed. Maybe it's because it was so late at night, the place was a little empty and maybe the food had been sitting out a while. The baked chicken and salmon we had were dry. A few other items were so-so. The ribs we had were good! Overall, the food was "good" but I was looking for "great". I would like to try Boma again...at a different time of the evening, perhaps.

By the way, I LOVED the desserts! I absolutely loved the zebra domes...my kind of dessert! The other desserts were wonderful as well.

As for the Animal Kingdom Lodge ... FANTASTIC! I loved staying at this resort!

There is a cab stand outside all the parks, not sure exactly where it is at AK (at MK its out at the TTC - so you need to get there). There are almost always taxis at the stand, when there isn't there is a phone, pick up the phone and it direct connects you, a cab will pull up in a few minutes (we've never waited more than three for a called cab).
