How are the reviews on Bomas? When it first opened it was one of those places that I really wanted to try out. Due to DS serve allergies, it is a place with very limited selections for him so we have never been. We are going to WDW with another family in a few weeks and they are going to watch our kids while we go to dinner (we will do the same for them). Is Bomas worth it? Thanks!

Boma's is great. We had eaten there in march and loved it so much that we decided to eat there again the next night. The food changes daily and the soups are to die for!! Everythign is excellent. Also, the deserts are out of this world. you have to try the Zebra Domes

We were just there for dinner and breakfast last month and it was amazing. My son has severe peanut allergies and the chef was wonderful in walking me around and showing me what he should avoid. They even made him a special dessert. You will love it!!

A lot of people really like it.

We were very disappointed. After the rave reviews I'd expect better than buffet food, and its really buffet food - many many choices, some unusual spices, but kept under a warmer not terribly fresh buffet food. I think we'd have enjoyed ourselves more had we had reasonable expectations. I'd gone with the expectation that Zebra Domes were the best dessert on property - I've started to wonder if the people who think that just don't have the same taste I do, or have had limited exposure to some of the great desserts out there, because I wouldn't have put them in the top ten. I'd gone anticipating the prime rib, but I've never had buffet prime rib that was really wonderful and I should have known better.

That said, its a good buffet - extensive and unusual. And the food is good quality - for a buffet.

My other complaint regarding Boma is that visiting the AKL is a fantastic experience, but its fairly off the beaten track. Unless you are staying at AKL or have a car, Boma can be difficult to get to. Even with a car, its less accessible than other choices on property.

Add us to the "Love Boma" list. We try never to miss it when at the world. Lots of great choices, the AKL is such a unique setting in itself. Yes, it is a buffet, but it is unlike any other buffet we've ever been too. Got to second the vote for the soups. I have made several meals out of them alone. The salmon is always tasty, as are several salds, the flatbreads with assorted humus, the lentil meatballs, fuu-fuu (Sp?). I love the desserts too, but the pineapple cheesecake thingies and the similarly-built chocolate choice do more for me than the zebra domes.

If you want a unique dinner and are adventurous eaters, I would recommend you give Boma a try.

i think you do need to take reviews with a grain of salt. i was so excited to go to boma and had a lackluster experience partly cause i expected too much. ( ohana's also fit this catagory) we canceled our adr for dinner due to the disappointing brkfst( wish we had kept it so i could know once and for all if it's worth it or not) i think with some of the more popular places everyone kind of "gets onthe band wagon" of praise...just a warning..take it with a grain of salt too!:) maybe check someplace like the ug where it gives both unbaised and reader reviews

::yes::

DSD also has severe peanut allergies, which we mentioned to the hostess. She told the chef who gave us a tour of the entire buffet, letting us know what DSD could / could not have. Then he sent a special platter to our table. The food was awesome.

We love Bomas too! If just you and your husband are going dinner alone (no kids) maybe you want something more relaxed and romantic? Bomas is great, but it is a buffet.

Thanks for everyone's reviews. I think we will give it a try. We will be child-free but it is one of those places I have wanted to try for years and have never been able to. We'll go for romantic next time ;-)

If it is just you and your husband for a special night out, maybe you should look at Jiko instead? It is in the AKL also, the food is fabulous, and the atmosphere is much more romantic, and quieter, than Boma. If you are looking for a buffet, though, Boma is a good choice. I especially liked the sweet potato fufu and the soups.

I disagree, the food at Boma is better than at Jiko. I am really a picky eater, and it is hard for me to find a restaurant that is consistently worth the money spent. I often try a dish and it is not that great, and I am put off from trying that restaurant again. That is probably one of the reasons I love Boma so much. If I don't like the dish, I try the one next to it and very often I'll love it. The choice gives me a better probability of finding food I think is great! :sunny:

I ate at Boma twice on our last trip and it was great! The creamy chicken soup! the prime rib with mustard sauce, their version of bread pudding, cole slaw, potato salad were all excellent.

My favorite dessert was a tossup between the bread pudding and cheesecake. Which is funny, because most places I never order bread pudding or cheesecake.

They had some really good ribs there a couple of years ago. It's definitely worth a try -- we had ressies for Jiko with some friends who showed up with some other friends, so we switched to Boma. Everyone enjoyed it all, including trying new foods that we wouldn't have tried otherwise. There's always something somewhere people can find to dislike, but we didn't find it there that night nor a few days later when we revisited. I hope you have a great time!

We went in March and loved it so much we went back later in the week. I'm not an adventurous eater and found lots to eat there. I loved the prime rib and roasted chicken. The desserts are to die for.

If you're kid free, take some time to walk out onto the stone balconies and relax on the rocking chairs. There are hallways off the main lobby toward the back - you can go left or right - and you can sit and watch the animals. We did that before our dinner and loved it.

Have a great time!

I put Boma's in the "had to try at least once" category. It was good (but not great), very busy and somewhat loud. I ate food I probably would have never eaten anywhere else and for the most part enjoyed most of it. I'm glad I went but probably will never go back - it just didn't live up to all the 'hype'.

I haven't been to Boma's yet but we are planning on being there for Thanksgiving dinner this year!
I can't wait for a relaxing buffet of interesting food that *I* did not have to cook. And fufu! I haven't had that since my dh's Nigerian college roommate made it many years ago...I hope they leave it on the Tday menu!

This is probably not the right spot to ask this question...but how much
time should I allow to get from AK to Boma's on a Thanksgiving day afternoon? Thanks....... :)

I have to say that I too was disappointed. Although the variety of food was huge I just did not like it. I am a big fan of spicy food and found all the 'spicy' dishes underseasoned and the desserts far too sweet. Having said all that, the banana bread pudding is to die for!

We love Boma! I have eaten there four times now, and have never found the food to be merely "buffet" food. The prime rib is deliciously spiced, the salads are very fresh with unusual dressings, and the soups are to die for! They have some very good wines, and we really enjoy the unusual seasonings. The desserts are good as well, though we are usually too full to eat much. Our servers have always been outstanding.

OK, what is FUFU? I'm thinking of trying this place, but my kid's are very picky when it comes to new things. Do they have the standard kid's food also?
