BOMAS bleah! Never again...

I wasn't considering Boma for dinner but I do have it on the list for breakfast. Does anyone have anything bad to say about their breakfast?

We have an ADR for our trip in May. I thought we'd try it based on all the good reviews on this board. My husband is a picky eater so he may not try much. My daughter does not eat meat, but I'm hoping for her to find a lot of fish and veggie offerings at Boma. I feel we have to try it at least once.

I agree with this. I think everyone, if they have the extra $, should try Boma's at least once. I know I would, even knowing what I think about it now. As I indicated earlier, I am a picky eater. My tastes have been beat down by America's fast food establishments. Maybe I cannot appreciate good food anymore. Another place with authentic food that is probably fantastic but that I found to be horrible was the buffet restaurant in Epcot's Norway. We went there for lunch. All of it was authentic Norway food, lots of raw pickled fish, etc. I am sure some people would love this place but for me I literally could not find one thing to eat. Cheez. Give me Taco Bell, Burger King and Pizza Hut. This post has been a revealation to me.

It smelled good for the time we stayed at AKL...but we had no desire to go there after dinner...... :(

I'm just glad I'm not alone...I posted to see if I was alone...I felt bad...we payed money, I played it up to my wife, and we were both dissapointed.....like I said it's all up to your tastes...we are pretty open....but I thought this was a waste of money. But once again thats just my opinion :) To each their own.

We ate at Boma's last year and I too must admit that we did not care for it. The only part of the meal we liked was dessert! :)

My daughter kept calling the Zebra Domes, Zebra Balls. My husband and I were nearly falling out of our chairs laughing! But, we all did love them! Yummy! :earsgirl:

Sorry for all those that didn't enjoy Boma! :guilty:

Personally, we love it! It's one of our "must do" places on each trip. My mom, my sister, my husband, and even my two year old are crazy for the food there.

However, I will say that we are all adventurous eaters and we really enjoy authentic and different foods. (DH and I honeymooned in Morocco and LOVED the food!) We don't care for fast food at all (unless we're in a hurry and have to eat in the car) and when we're on vacation we try to stay away from chain places like Applebees, Denny's, etc. We can eat that at home anytime. When we're on vacation, we want something different! So, Boma is right up our alley!

Everybody's different, though.

My family eat ethnic foods all the time and my DH has traveled to over 40 countries so I think we will enjoy Boma's.

Interesting views and I guess if you are a bit picky and used to American style foods, Boma's might be a leap for you. I've read good and bad reviews about every restaurant these boards have reviewed so it truely is different strokes for different folks!

We can hardly wait to try all the restaurants we have ADR's at!

We have eaten at Boma several times and always enjoyed the food. I really like there soups, some of the best I have ever had. On our last visit I asked one of the Chef's questions about some of the items and he gladly walked me around the whole buffet telling me what each item was and how it was prepared. We love eating at Boma & Jiko . Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your dinner there.

I will say that we've either lucked out or haven't had enough experience (three trips), but we have yet to have a bad meal at WDW. I know that eventually we will, but maybe we'll keep up our lucky streak.

The closest thing we've had to a bad meal at WDW is the counter service at Disney-MGM. Easily the worst of the four parks when ot comes to fast food (or food in general, IMO).

ITA ::yes:: This has been our experience, so far....We are trying Boma for dinner in June :)

A friend of mine and I had breakfast at Boma on 2/8 and we thought it was awesome! I have eaten at many of the breakfast buffets at Disney and IMHO this was one of the best. I plan on putting it the list for our next trip as a family.

Cheers-

We also enjoy ethnic foods and we have plenty of ethnic restaurants in L.A., including African ones. Boma is just not that good, IMO. Quite a few of Boma's ethnic dishes had similar spices in them- predominantely cinnamon and cloves. After a while, it was just silly to us. Definitely go and enjoy, but keep in mind this is Disney and what they call ethnic is not always what we would call ethnic in the real world.

I never think of myself as picky eater, but, I am rethinking this. I just eat alot of the few things I like. Like pizza for instance. Therefore, when you read the remainder of this post please keep in mind that I am a self admitted Picky Eater. I am also an American food eater, or at least an Americanized food eater. Give me a Taco Bell combo burrito for 1.29 (ok, two combo burritos) over an authentic burrito costing 12.00 and giving me the runs any day. Same way with spaghetti (I like it out of the box).

I had no clue what most of the stuff at Boma was, thus, I didn't eat it. The stuff I did try was not to my liking. So, Boma was not for me or my family. It may be for some people. And, like a previous poster explained, it is probably worth trying, for me and my family full of picky eaters once was enough. If you have kids just be ready for them to not like it. I am sorry to be so negative but, our dislike of the food cannot be due to an "off night". The quality of the food is undoubtedly first class. It is also, obviously, authentic and true to it's African tradition. But, if you don't like beets you don't like beets no matter how well they are prepared. I don't like beets.
I took 5 kids to Boma..2 are picky eaters. All of them loved Boma

We also weren't impressed - and I didn't like the dessert either (I did like the soups, but $30 for soup is expensive!). We are adventurous, well traveled eaters....it wasn't that the food was unusual, it just was that it wasn't that good.

(Zebra domes are a mocha mousse on a spongecake bottom with a chocolate ganache shell - I didn't really taste a lot of coffee - but it is mocha. My big problem was that ours were far too geletainy - and I don't like geletainy mousse - tasted stale and old).

I think the biggest problem for us was the hype - I passed the hype to my party, so we all had high expections (and then I felt responsible for everyone's disappointing meal). Had we gone with reasonable expectations, we'd have been fine. But when we booked there were almost no bad reviews of this place. It was our last meal in Disney, as well....which really hurt because we were leaving on a down note.

I disagreed with you on Boma, but I totally agree with you about Norway.I thought it was awful

We didn't like Boma either. The food was a little too flavorful. I didn't like the zebra domes since I didn't understand what they were and got a surprise when I bit into it. One great thing about the experience was the service. The CM's were very helpful and friendly.

I think in general its a good idea to try new restaurants at WDW. Our family really enjoys Boma but aren't Calif Grill fans. Sometimes a restaurant can really surprise you. We for some reason never went to the TS restaurant at the German Pavillon. Well we tried it in Dec and it was fabulous. My oldest DS had a ball dancing and playing with all the other kids on the dance floor (which gave DH & I a chance to relax and eat) the youngest 2 DS ate a great meal. After dancing around oldest DS ate his weight in chicken cutlets and black forest cake :rotfl2: . We will go back again.

Breakfast at Boma is something we do every trip! It is our favorite and seems to have everything! We love the African theme of the resort and restaurant, the wide variety of breakfast food, including waffles, eggs, cereals, danishes, bacon and sausages (old stand bys) along with pork, African oatmeal, Kenyan coffee and the greatest fruit juice (among other new findings) that we have have ever had. We plan a few hours at the AKL around brunch at Boma to enjoy the ambience of both the meal and the resort. Make sure you ask about Zebra Domes (delicious desserts) to finish off your visit to AKL.

Their soups and stews are delicious but they do have different ones on different nights of the week. They have a seafood gumbo that is the best I have ever ate but it is not there every night. Their primerib and salad bar are extremely good. We ate breakfast there for the first time in Nov. 05 and it is a very good breakfast bar, with a omlet station. This is one of our favorite restaurants in WDW, Sorry if you did not like it.

When we were there in March, they *DID* have little signs saying what the dishes were called, etc. Also, most dishes were not seafood. There is always meat, potatoes, etc. plus things for the finicky eater (chicken fingers, pasta, fries, etc.).
