We have a 5:00 reservation for Boma on a non park day. This trip is both the first time we are staying at Saratoga Springs and the first time we will be using Disney transportation. Would the quickest/easiest way to to get to Boma and back be to grab a bus to Downtown Disney and then grab an AKL bus from there or is there a better route?

Depends on where you stay in SSR. If you are in Congress Park, walk to DTD and hop on the AKL bus. You could take the DTD bus and transfer to the AKL bus or you can also take the DAK bus and transfer at Animal Kingdom to the AKL bus.

A cab is also an option.

Hi,

The quickest and easiest way would be to take a cab...but if you prefer using Disney transportation you could also go to a park and then transfer to an AKL bus.

Thanks to both of you.

We probably won't be doing a taxi even though I'm sure it would be much simpler that way. It sounds like depending on where our room ends up being we can either go the DTD route or just grab the first bus and transfer to AKL from there. I wasn't sure if there was a particular park bus to avoid if it would take us on a more indirect route and add travel time.

Depending on where you are in SSR, you need to leave plenty of time! If you're in the Grandstand area, my favorite area, you are the first bus pickup. But...it then takes a pretty long time to make the circuit around the resort before you actually leave the resort! If you're the last stop, then it's not such a big deal.

I would take the AK bus, and transfer to the AKL from there. I would plan on leaving my room around 3:30ish. That way, you won't have to stress about time. And it gives you some time to poke around AKL when you arrive. After dinner, I would take the DTD bus. Then either the boat to SSR, or the bus. Or, if you feel like it, you could walk back. It's a fairly pleasant walk.

Thank you. Knowing how much time to budget is very helpful and I would much rather be early than late. AKL is our favorite place to stay and we'll be more than happy to hang out over there for a while just enjoying the resort.

We had a similar issue for a Jiko reservation while staying at AoA.
We made the mistake of taking a bus to MK and then getting an AKL bus - the mistake was going to MK and not one of the closer parks from AoA, we wasted a lot of time and would have saved a lot of time if we'd done the same trip but going to Epcot or DAK instead.
On the way back, we opted for a cab, which was pretty cheap and definitely less hassle.
I might still do the park bus option to get there but pick a park that is close - both from your hotel to that park and a park that is close to AKL. If you don't want to worry about time (waiting for buses), the cab is easy and not expensive.
Have fun!

Grandstand is the first pickup for everyone except DTD (or it was). DTD starts at the Springs and the last stop is Congress Park.
