Boma overrated?

We've done boma twice and it's not for us.

Agree buffet seems the busiest - the pod idea doesn't work if it's busy - people queue in one line, you feel like you are cutting in if you join further along.

Soups are good but rest sweet not spicy. I make the chicken curry soup at home now.

Boma is one of my fav Disney restaurants!
I want to eat there each time I go and my DH is now a massive fan, we even won his parents over when we took them there in 2010 who aren't fans of Disney at all!
It is one of the more expensive buffets however I think it's worth it for the variety and the décor. Also if your on the DDP the cost shouldnt be a problem.

Its worth getting there a little earlier to collect your buzzer (whether youve booked or not) so you can have a look around the resort as it's stunning.

It was ok, we went last Aug, food was edible, very busy and crowded. But the whole of AKL was busy and loud, DH wasn't keen on AKL at all said it was too dark and noisy.

we have done bfast and dinner several times, and find bfast is the best (be warned its the same buffet food as at the TH character bfast if ur planning to do both)....
we love the fruit juice...worth the trip just for that
a very early adr, a walk around to watch animals before an AK day rocks! dinner is fun, if u go into it with the idea its loud (think CM loud)... and its like the school canteen, it was my sons only request for an adr for next year, but as we are doing the TH bfast too im trying to swap, not because its not great, but because 2 identical meals seems silly iyswim.
akl is stunning, cool and quiet, when the kids finally leave home this will be my hotel of choice (might be a split stay with the poly....lmao!!

Went there 2 years ago and had the worst food of the holiday. Wouldn't recommend it.

We like the food, especially the sweets, but I know what you mean about the noise when it's busy. The attitude of your server has a real impact too - I loved the food at Saana but had such a long wait for the food & a really unhelpful server that I doubt we'd go back.

The problem I have with buffetts is we don't ever all seem to be sitting at the table eating at the same time so not the usual nice family chat time - not that it matters so much on holiday.

as a vegetarian, i loved the food at boma...
however, i didn't like how crowded and noisy it was...
in fact, i was shocked when we first walked in..
i had no idea it was as big as it is, and every table was filled...
fortunately, since we started rather late, the crowd (and noise) went down considerably about 20 minutes after we sat down...

I loved it there too, and I'm another vegetarian. Just loved the fact the food choices were more 'adventurous' than the usual Disney fare for us non-animal eaters LOL.

I don't remember it being noisy, despite it being in the Easter holidays, and it was relatively busy I think.

We're going back in a couple of weeks!

Servers do make a massive difference, had 2 meals at Sanaa (Aug 2011 & Aug 2012) 2 of the best servers we have had in Disney. Many places just serve the child meal as menu, in Sanaa this year the server said to Lily he would get anything she wanted just ask. He brought her a dish of apples and a bowl of rice she asked for, neither on the menu, neither on the bill. Just a little thing that costs next to nothing but made a massive difference to our experince.

Sitting at a table each evening is a big thing for me, we sit at table every evening at home and I like to do the same on holiday. We stopped enjoying buffets years ago, its not just Boma, we prefer not to do many buffets at all now.

I loved it. Even slightly moreso than Biergarten. It was a little noisy but we didn't wait on a table, no waiting in the buffet line, food was mostly good (watermelon rind salad..,blecch!), server was nice & attentive, guy at the carving station talked to us & found out he was originally from our area. It was overall a great experience and aside from Narcoossee's & Artist Point it was my fave.

Just shows how different we all are, Biergarten is one I would never return to, even though we got on very well with the family we were sat with I do not enjoy sharing a table for a family meal. Didn't enjoy the "show" or the food.

Haven't done Biergarten and planned to go next year, but didn't realise it has shared tables - we don't like sharing either!

My wife and I don't either. Nor do many of the other people on these boards who give it a try anyway. It's just really good & is something that should be tried at least once.

We also do very few buffets now.
We prefer proper sit down meals.
