Boma or 'Ohana

Another vote for Boma! But, full disclosure here: we've never eaten at O'Hana, but have eaten at local Brazilian churrascarias, and find that the selection of meat, sides/appetizers, and desserts is better at the churrascarias than at O'Hana (16 different meats/HUMONGOUS "feast table"--including desserts--selections vs. four different meats/five appetizers/one dessert). And we thought that, hands down, Boma was the best buffet at WDW (followed closely by the more traditional Crystal Palace).

I haven't eaten at either but...

Boma is supposed to be one of the best for kids.

Boma is also one table service credit, while O'hana is a "dining experience" and required 2 table service credits.

Honestly, if I do a luau, I wanna do it in Hawaii.

We have ressies at Boma next week....So I'm excited to try it!

'Ohana isn't a luau but "The Spirit of Aloha" dinner show is, are you sure it's 'Ohana and not the other you're referring to?

Yep...sorry. I got confused for a moment there.

I have heard Great things about Boma though. I'm having dinner there on Nov. 9th!

You must try Boma's! The resort, animals, and decor are awesome and the buffet... WOW! :thumbsup2

I had the same question so thanx to the OP for this question and thanx to everyone for all the great feedback!!

We loved our first O'Hana meal with younger kids. We went back as a couple and it was just not the same. We were stuck in a dark corner, seated with strangers (which did not work for either couple - they were young, not yet married and obviously madly in love, we are more mature but really into each other). We switched our seats around so they could bill and coo and we could talk to each other. We had poor service, which only compounded things, like we were all being punished for not playing along. We probably won't go back for a long while.

Boma I adore. I love their ginger carrot soup. I love the atmosphere. I love the bar upstairs where I sit with my wine and wait to be seated. I love love love love Boma.

I want to do a buffet dinner style dinner, one evening while i'm at disney in august, we are a party of parents and 3 older teens, which would suit us best?

boma or 'ohana for dinner, i have looked at both the menus and i just don't know??

Boma's.

And here's why:

Your older teens are not likely to enjoy the "entertainment" at Ohana's. It's geared toward young kids and "disneyfied" adults. The teens are probably going to think it's incredibly lame.

The food at Boma's is, IMHO, vastly better and offers a pretty large variety, which means you and the kids are all likely to find things you like on the buffet.

And roaming the resort (AKL) before, or after, dinner is going to be a LOT more entertaining to your teens than the goings on during dinner at Ohana's, IMHO.

By way of full disclosure, I've eaten at both quite a number of times.

Just a quick correction:

Ohana's is only a 1 TS credit restaurant on the DDP.

Neither one would be my first choice, but if I had to pick between the two, I would be Ohana! Due to the food, slightly better, atmosphere is better and the location is better. Also, very fun festive enviroment!

We took our picky 16 year old with us to Boma's in September. It was the first place he wanted to go back to when we booked our 2008 trip! :goodvibes There are "standards" there... if the kids do not like the food (and there are so many choices I think they will find something new they like), there are mac & cheese, pasta, meatballs, and chicken choices as well so they will get full! We also loved exploring the resort, it is amazing! :goodvibes

I'd have to go with Boma even though we haven't eaten there yet (but will on Sunday!)

We ate at 'Ohana in August and didn't enjoy it at all. It probably had to do with the fact that they stuck us in the back where you can't see anything, but I didn't really like the food. The shrimp wasn't great, I didn't enjoy the fried wonton things or the messy chicken wings, I thought the potatoes where yucky, the meat was dry, and nobody ate the bread pudding and my DH likes stuff like that.

They kind of stuck us back there and forgot about us and it was the only ADR that we had to wait a long time for.

My vote hands down goes to Boma :thumbsup2

I have eaten at both restaurants and my whole family prefers Boma to O'hana. Boma has such a large variety of food that everyone can find something they like. O'hana just doesn't have the choices and variety and sometimes the food can be dry or overcooked

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is such a great resort to explore. They have a nightly storytelling by a CM who is native to Africa. You sit around a fire pit in huge, really comfortable, rocking chairs. There is a huge savannah with animals similar to what you would see on the safari ride. Also, when it gets dark you can use special nightvision binoculars to watch the animals.

Heres a secret that I don't tell many people. I have taken my family to Boma for two years in a row for Thanksgiving dinner because I didn't want to cook  . They not only have their full buffet, but they add all the Thanksgiving staples like turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, etc...and it's really good ;)

Ohana definitley. My Dh and I did not care for Boma. even though they have a big variety of food, we just did not like it. Ohana was very good, we ate there twice on our trip there. Go with Ohana you will not be sorry, it is fun there too and relaxing and the view is so nice.

Boma is more up-market, good atmosphere and decor for an evening out. you can also wander around AKL after your meal which is an added bonus.

Has anyone mentioned ZEBRA DOMES!!!!!

Although both are great!

We loved our first O'Hana meal with younger kids. We went back as a couple and it was just not the same.

We had the same experience, only in reverse. My husband and I stayed at the Polynesian for our honeymoon almost 10 years ago and absolutely loved Ohana's. For years, we bragged to our family how good it was. We just returned to Ohana's last week with our nieces and it just wasn't the same. :guilty: It was good... but nothing like it was during our first visit. They changed the menu somewhat and the meat just wasn't as tasty. I wished we would have tried Boma's instead. I think my nieces would have enjoyed seeing the AKL.

I'm not sure whether you know that Ohana is not a regular buffet where you go and pick out your food. The servers bring you the food from their fixed menu, and there's a lot of it. But if it's buffet you really want then you should go with Boma.

We ate at both in August and we liked them but I would give Boma a slight edge--service was a little better and the wait wasn't quite as long. Food was very good at both but there's a lot more variety at Boma. Both AKL and the Poly are fun to walk around. You do get to hear the Wishes soundtrack at Ohana and see the fireworks if you're there at the right time.

Whichever you one you pick, you can't go wrong--they're both great!

Boma Boma Boma !!

This is a must-do for this family for every trip. Boma is hands-down our favorite restaurant in WDW. Excellent prime rib and the salmon is great each time. If you are really lucky and the cook remembers you sometimes you can even get the fried Oreos (not on the menu). I know it sounds funny, but it is sinfully delicious !

And , just in case I wasn't clear :

Boma Boma Boma !! Boma Boma Boma !! Boma Boma Boma !!
Boma Boma Boma !! Boma Boma Boma !! Boma Boma Boma !!
Boma Boma Boma !! Boma Boma Boma !! Boma Boma Boma !!
