I made an ADR for both Boma and Jiko and I am now trying to decide where to go. The price at Boma sounds a little steep for a serve-yourself buffet, but at the same time I figure I will end up spending more at Jiko and not get as much food. We will not have any children with us for this dinner, so that is not an issue, but I am really having touble deciding. Would there be enough at Boma for a non-adventurous eater?

I will try to help you here. I have not eaten here, but there is a menu on allearsnet.com People say it is wonderful. I was scared away before, because I thought it was exotic food. I believe it is regualar stuff like roasted chicken and such. I heard the dessert is great, everyone keeps talking about zebra dombs. I have to have one !!

While I am fairly adventurous and love to try new things to eat, DH is kinda picky. He likes regular American/Southern cooking. Nothing fancy.

We ate at Boma. I could not convince him to try Jiko. He figured that at Jiko he could be stuck with one dish he didn't like whereas at Boma, he could try a small amount of "new" things and mainly stick to what he knew.

He managed to get stuffed at Boma (and he can eat a lot). The night we were there they had prime rib and he had plenty of that. He didn't care for a lot of the side dishes, but claimed they had some of the best desserts he had ever eaten.

I know I'm not really answering your question, but that was our experience. Hope it helps..... :goodvibes

Both places have slightly adventurous food, and both places also have food that would satisfy finicky eaters.

If you can, I think you should try both, as they are both excellent. And while the price for Boma isn't $9.99, the quality of what you get is very high (at least when I at there two years ago).

Jiko is also really great, and if your husband likes steak, there is a filet mignon served with homemade mac n cheese that is out of this world. Jiko will cost you more than Boma (how much more depends on how much you order).

You really can't go wrong with either, so enjoy! :)

There is a concern, if you have food allergies be sure to make them known to your server at Boma. Boma uses a lot of spices not widely found in American cooking. For instance, coriander. Jiko uses more common spices in unusual ways. The previous poster mentioned the filet mignon with macaroni and cheese. It is excellent.

I didn't even think about food allergies, but I don't have any that I know of when it comes to unusual spices. I am allergic to bell peppers and if I so much as touch one I break out in hives. However, the only place I ever had a problem with that was San Angel Inn. For the most part I just ask the server if anything I am ordering has bell pepper. Would that not work at Boma though since everything is pre-cooked?

Hi, Stitch. My DSD is deathly allergic to any kind of nuts. We mentioned this to the hostess when we arrived. And you know what? She went and got the chef for us, who personally gave us a tour of the buffet, and showed us what DSD could and could not have. Then, later, he made up a special platter just for us, of foods that were not in the buffet.

I can truly say that he sprinkled some :wizard: on us! Don't worry, they are wonderful about food allergies.
