We are considering Boma and Hoop Dee Doo. Which would you choose and why?

Thanks for any input!

I haven't eaten at either but plan on Boma this time. I think Boma's reviews are more towards the great than HDDR. I really want to experience the foods at Boma, and if I don't like the african dishes I will be able to still have good food as they have american dishes as well. JMO but that is why we chose Boma this time.

It really depends on what you are looking for. We love both, but they really are polar opposites.

Boma - Wonderful food, buffet-style, wide variety, unique African flavors, delicious desserts.

Hoop Dee Doo - Terrific show, family-style service, barbecue-style food, delicious strawberry shortcake.

I'd say that if you're more interested in the food go with Boma, if you're more interested in the show go to the Hoop Dee Doo and if you can possibly manage it go to both!

I think there are a few questions you should consider before deciding...

Are you on the dining plan? Boma is only 1 point; Hoop is 2
Do you drink beer and or wine? At Hoop it's included; Boma it's out of pocket
Do you have plans for after dinner? Hoop is an event; Boma is just a dinner

We've done both and find that since we're drinkers and love going out- Hoop Dee is a great option for us! but it's an individual choice...;)

When we were done with our dinner at Boma pretty quickly we went upstairs to the bar.:rolleyes1
I love vacations!

I have not been to Boma--but have been to HDD.

I think what you want to ask yourself is--do you want entertainment with free sangria and free beer with some okay fried chicken and ribs--

Or do you want a more extensive/exotic menu?

It's kind of like asking if you want to eat an apple or an orange. It really depends on your tastebuds.

We want to do HDD again with the kids who have not been--but that is so they can see a show. We also cannot wait to try Boma and will likely do that first.

HTH even though I have only been to one place.

Well I have never been to Boma But If I was in the mood for that type of food i would absolutely go there.

I would recommend the hoop dee doo especially if you have never done it.
You would need to be in the mood for a diner show and not care about how much time you spend there. the diner show is going to take longer.

We enjoy the hoop dee doo's food. It is very good and the entertainment is the best. i have never been disappointed.

Hope this helps

I've been to Boma and I think it's excellent. We are going back this year as well. The kids loved the selection they had.

We were also going to do Hoop De Doo(we've never been before), but we decided to go with Mickey's Backyard BBQ instead just becuase that's what DD7 picked.

I've read great reviews for Hoop De Doo so I think either would be a great choice.

Best thing about HDD is the entertainment. popcorn::
The food at HDD is about quantity not quality.
Beer and sangria is included. Everyone should try it once.

Two totally different experiences. There is really no comparison. You go to Boma for the food. You go to HDDR review for the fun.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Boma, Boma, Boma, Boma, Boma, Boma, and can I say it again? Boma! We go to Boma every trip-it's absolutely on our list of favorites-great food and buffet are not always thoughts that go together, but they definitely do @ Boma. :thumbsup2

We went to Hoop Dee Doo once and were VERY upset that we used 2 DDP credits/person to sit and watch skits (because it's not really a complete, cohesive show-which is what we were expecting) and eat food that tasted like it was from KFC. I really don't know why it gets such rave reviews from so many people!:confused3

Both are great. I agree with everyone else - they are two completely different experiences. We have a couple small children and went to Boma this last December - it was nice but after a little bit our little one was ready to leave and we wanted to stay to enjoy more food (guess who won that one). The lines for food at Boma are reasonable but move pretty slow, so you need some patience. It is worth the wait and the desserts are delectable.
The hoop-dee-doo is wonderful for little ones and adults alike. It is loud, fun, and the food is good (served family style). It is a funny show and even has audience partisipation (but not too much for the shy folks)! Our family really enjoys this show and is even better if you have a large group.

:cool1:BOMA BOMA BOMA:cool1:

It's so good, never had a bad meal there. Not too exotic that picky eaters won't like it. It has the best freshest salads and fruits, amazing seafood and meats. I'm drooling now thinking about it!

we just got back today and did both.

we had been to HDD before and wanted to go again because we enjoy the show, and the free beer is a good value for us. the food is good, but it's typical ribs and fried chicken. i love the cornbread, but not so much of a fan of the strawberry shortcake (there's nothing wrong with it, i just don't like strawberry shortcake).

this was our first time at boma, and i think it was my favorite meal of the week (we were on the DDP and also at at coral reef, chef mickey's breakfast and lecellier). the food was excellent, and there were a lot of interesting choices. the menu changes every night, so we will definitely be going back.

If you are travelling with younger kids (ie. not teens) - do HDDD; if two adults - I would do Boma, personally.

We did both with our two boys, different trips - they laughed and enjoyed HDDD ++++. Boma was nothing special in terms of kids menu. For me, I LOVED their salads and meat. HDDD, for food, not even close to Boma - best part was watching the kids laugh and have a good time.

We stayed at the AKL last year and tried Boma. The four of us hated it. I love trying need food, but that place just was not appealing. On the other hand I was need to the Review. No more African food for us!

I suggest looking at the menu on line before commiting. If you want an option try Le Cellier in Canada.

Good luck and enjoy!

This is sort of like comparing Medieval Times and Golden Corral.

One is a buffet, one is a dinner show. One is significantly more expensive than the other. one has a longer time commitment. One has african influenced dishes, while one is all you can eat chicken and ribs. One has all you can drink beer/sangria, one has a bar you can pay OOP for.

There is no way anyone can tell you which is better over another. They are both things YOU need to try for yourself and decide which you'd rather make time for your next trip. Try one now, try another the next trip if you can't work them both in.

There is a reason why HDDR has run almost sold out shows for 25+ years, and a reason why Boma is hard to get a reservation for.

We have done both, and my family would all agree if we were going to repeat one, it would be Hoop Dee Doo. We thought it was a lot of fun, we actually liked the food (the beer and Sangria didn't hurt either), and it was more of an "Event". We try to plan for one event each night of our trip (could be Fantasmic, Illuminations, Wishes, etc.). HDDR was our event for our Animal Kingdom night, and it fit the bill perfectly. YOu are actually getting a meal at the same time, while Boma is JUST a meal. AND I will buck the trend and say we really didn't like the food at Boma. While it was a pretty neat setting and we enjoyed going outside to see the animals, we could have accomplished the same thing by just visiting the hotel. Food-wise, it wasn't for us.

Ugh, I just don't know what to do yet.

We have almost all ressies that are character meals, but we do have Le Cellier too.

I need a few more days to think and I may call about what is egg-free at both places (my son is allergic to eggs).

Thanks for the input!

We've done HDDR 3 times including just last week - a very fun show & decent/good food. We tried Boma for the 1st time last week & thought is was just ok - we didn't really care for the more exotic African-flavored foods -not sure if we would go back.
