Boma -- is it what it once was?

It isn't as good as it once was, for sure. Our last visit in late 2015 was relatively disappointing - there were fewer soups than ever before that night, for example. But it is still the best buffet on property by a big margin. :)

I just finished planning a late June trip for our 4some (wife, 19 year old son, his 18 year old GF and myself) We are doing 3 dinners at World Showcase (Chefs du France , San Angel Inn at Mexico and Rose &Crown at England) but since we only decided on 3 day Park Hopper tickets our 'free day' which will be spent at the Wyndham laying at the pool , we decided to do dinner at Animal Kingdom Lodge as we have never seen it or the grounds, so it came down to between Boma and Saana. I then couldn't get a good time for reservation for Saana so took Boma, but after trying a few times we got a 6 pm for Saana, which appears to be about a 5
10 minute walk from AK Lodge. Our plan is to take Uber back and forth to AK from Wyndham BC.

I hope I made a good choice, the reviews seem good, and the view of the animals in the savannah from the windows clinched it

We've been eating there for more than 10 years. It is my family's #1 favorite dinner at WDW, and my dh's favorite breakfast. We haven't noticed any decline. (BTW, we really enjoy Sanaa, too - especially the dinner specials. The regular menu is just so-so, aside from the fabulous bread service. However, there's no comparing Boma and Sanaa. They're quite different. I would compare Boma to Tusker House, with Boma being the clear winner for good, interesting food.)

Sanaa is definitely more of a 10 minute walk from Jambo House. Not sure it can be done in 5 unless you run. There is a van/shuttle that runs between Jambo and Kidani. Spend time at both. The pool area at Kidani is beautiful, but Jambo has the gorgeous lobby and several pretty savanna viewing areas. Oh, and Jambo's pool is pretty, too. The "safari"-esque cast members at both places are knowledgeable and super interesting to talk to. If you are at Jambo at the right time, you might even see the wood carver at work in the gift shop.

Thanks !

Been going to Boma since 2001. Keep hearing that it's gone downhill. I go back, and it's far and away my favorite meal of my trip every time.

It goes through changes. Some may like the changes, some may not, and that may be what leads to the reports of it going downhill. But I'm not exaggerating when I say that if Boma were to close, I would travel to WDW a lot less often.

We go almost every trip or every other trip. (2 x a year now). We still love it.

We ate at Boma for the first time about 7 years ago and really enjoyed it. We were excited to return when we went last March. Unfortunately, we found it to not be at all like it was. The tables are too crammed together now and the food wasn't great. Even the service was bad :( We enjoyed Jiko very much, and are planning to try Sanaa next month.

Never had an issue at Boma. I like that the fare is varied. Enough "exotic" to appease me, enough "boring" to appease my kids.

You and I feel the same way. lol. I am trying Saana this trip, I am actually very excited and glad to know it lived up to expectations.

Sanaa is fantastic. I wouldn't even compare Boma and Sanaa...two vastly different experiences/offerings. I love them both, but I would never say they are alike..

We went back dinner.

It was ...
... OK.

Still by far the best of the restaurants we went to (GF Cafe, Tony's, Yak & Yeti, Crystal Palace, Ohana), but not as interesting as I remember. Certainly more flavor than the others, but not as interesting as I remembered. (Among other things, I believe they once had a variety of Ethiopian-style vegetarian items but there was at most one.)

For me, it is the one place I go, whether on the dining plan or not: lots of options, prepared with more care than a lot of other buffets, with something for vegetarians, gluten free eaters, and hardcore carnivores!....I do not like zebra domes btw.
