Boma for the "REALLY" picky eater

My DH/DS are the types who won’t eat something when vegetables are cooked with meat or if the food is cooked with too much spice (such as red/green peppers). I personally want to try Boma in the worst way, but I don't want to waste my $$ or time if all those two are going to eat is the Kid’s Buffet & Desserts.

I would greatly appreciate any experiences you've had with a picky eater at the Boma Dinner Buffet. (And I apologize if this has been covered before. Just direct me to that thread and I'll be happy.)

My husband and I took my best friend and her husband there. They are both very picky eaters but they are willing to try things. They both ended up eating off of the children's pod because they didn't like any of the dishes (other than fruit) from the main pods. They didn't like the spices on the meats, vegetables, soups, etc. It was such a shame because we love that place.

Boma is not for picky eaters. Now if those picky eaters are mostly veggie eaters...well there may be some wiggle room.
That said, Boma's foods are spiced with African spices, which are mainly sweet, like cinnamon. It is not "hot" spicey as some think.

I must say I am not a "picky" eater but have been called so at times and wanted to try Boma as you do...well I should've saved my money.
Usually I can eat just meat and potatoes if push comes to shove...but I must say to eat strip loin rubbed in cinnamon....yuck, couldn't even enjoy that.

DH is an adventerous eater and even he said it wasn't his style.

Not to say it is bad, it isn't. The foods I had were good except the fact I don't like those flavors.

You eat at Boma, and send the folks not willing to try new things over to the food court.:rotfl:

We loved it, and will be back. You'll probably love it too.

We've tried it several times and won't be back.

For picky eaters ... definitely skip it!!!

I will put in another vote and say skip it... sorry :sad1:! I am a picky eater, but am willing to try new things. I did just that and ended up eating the same things my two kids ate.... the kiddie buffet :) oh and the dessert bar ;)!

DD9 and I are relatively picky eaters - she will try new things, I don't much.

DD9 ended up eating cookeis for dinner.

I tried the carved meats and chicken without the sauces - they still had their rubbed spices. Other than that, I tried the desserts (and didn't really care for them).

Neither of us would want to go back.

DH and I love to try new things and went last year. We're not going back. Too noisy and crowded. We didn't like the food either. We thought the food was better at Tusker House. We're not usually picky eaters so this was really strange for us to not like anything on the bar.

If you are picky but willing to try new things and be adventurous( like me) you may like it( I do).But if you are picky and dislike spices of any kind , are not willing to try anything new..Skip it. Judging by what you have said, you would be spending $$$ to eat chicken tenders and fries from the kids buffet

If you don't mind eating alone, do what I am planning to do: eat at Boma with the members of the party who would enjoy it, and send the others to the counterservice restaurant (mara). If they get done sooner, there's lots to see just wandering around at AKL.

This thread is too funny. I started off reading it expecting everyone to say it wasn't a problem but instead everyone seems to think picky eaters should avoid!

Well, my daughter and I are pretty picky. I don't typically eat veggies and I have a severe allergy to potatoes. I loved Boma and can't wait to go back. I liked it better than Tusker House. I loved the meats, the bread, and there was a rice that was really good.

My daughter had no problem finding food either.

I think it depends more on their attitude than their "pickiness"! I'm really picky, but really wanted to have an adventure at Boma. I did fine, especially enjoying the soups and the dips with bread and crackers. However, if I was looking for something not to like, I would have found it! As it was, there was only one thing I ate that I just could not eat more than one bite. So, do they want to try it, or is this something you want? I took a reluctant 10 year old to New York City years ago, and it was miserable for the teenager who had been dreaming of the trip and for me! So, I'm a big fan of not forcing kids (or husbands) to go where they are determined to be miserable, because they will drag you down with them.

IMHO, Boma is the best buffet at WDW or otherwise. Even my wife who hates buffets insists on eating there every trip.

That said, no one in our family is picky and I would not recommend it for someone who was.

I was so excited to try Boma on our last trip. I had read so many great reviews here on the dis.

I am willing to try many different foods and combinations of foods.

I tried a bite of everything on the buffet. Searching and searching for something that I would just love!!

But, alas, my palate didn't find what it was looking for.

However, I had a great time, am glad that we tried it, and will probably never go back!!

I had read good things and we tried Boma a couple of christmas's ago. There were a few things I found that were okay I tried most everything the only thing I loved were the zebra domes. I just don't like the spices they use in most things. My children who are really not pickey eaters by any means did not like it so we wil not be going back. I can get Zebra domes at Mara
