Boma, am I alone here?

You are not alone. I don't really care for Boma either. It is okay at best. My girlfriend just loves breakfast at Boma and we have to go there every January during our all girls trip. I never make ADRs for our family trip in Sept. though. To each his own I suppose.:)

To OP- Thank you for starting this thread. it has been very helpful and everyone has been honest about the food. It has definitely helped me make a decision and hopefully will help others.

I am having a problem with this also. Dh and I were given a night at the AKL as an anniv present. I don't know where we are going to eat that night since I know my dh is a picky eater. We may be going to another resort to eat. I am thinking of one where we could see Wishes but maybe ESPN zone so he could the Mets play and I know that he would enjoy the food.

No - I hated it.

I left stuffed though. Stuffed with Zebra Domes. I had no problem with their dessert pod. ;)

OH - and their coffee press. Yummo! But thats it.

Picky eater has an array of meanings. so it is not a term that makes it clear to us who are trying to respond in a meaningdul way.

BOMA is loud and noisy...in the waiting area and at your table...to a point of being unpleasant. This is why we do not return. There is a distinct spice used called Durban Spice it is a collection of spice that includes: paprika, ground, cardamom , ground coriander, salt, ground black pepper, ground cumin, cayenne. The line offerings for a generally defined 'picky eater' would be better off at the CP or look at Jiko which is very nice. Check out the menus and let the picky one pcik to see if it fits. http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/disneydining.cfm

I am ridonkulously picky about food, sauces, spices, veggies etc...So color me shocked that I ADORED Boma. That soup, I think it was a chicken/corn chowder...i wish I was eating it right now! The prime rib and other meats were fan-freaking-tastic and the mac and cheese is tops! Bunch of other things I tried (and not only am I picky, but I am so not adventurous).

If you've never tried the place, don't be shy or put off by those who didn't like it. Try it for yourself. If you tried it and didn't like it, that;s fine. Different strokes and all!

Boma is my favorite of my family, 3 generations of not only picky eaters...but vegans and vegetarians as well.

Could be that is why my experience was different, we don't eat meat. There was a vast amount of choice. The chef pointed out all the vegan selections, whipped us up an additional surprise that was gorgeous. There was a lot of healthy fruits and veggies.

First place I book now is Boma. I am :lovestruc with it!

What about Jiko? SOOO good.

No problemo. I kept hearing this place was sooo good, try it, blah, blah, blah but it's really just not for me. The food I would eat, I didn't really enjoy except like the mac n cheese, fries and chicken fingers from what I remember, all of which are off of the children's pod.

We ate their last fall & did not like it at all. We won't be going back. There was not anything that we liked and we aren't even really picky eaters. I'd rather pay more and try Jiko and order off of a menu instead of the buffet.

We went to Boma last November for dinner and loved it. We heard breakfast was better then dinner but we wanted to try dinner anyway. We loved everything so much we asked for the recipes. I think the problem is you go in expecting not to like the food so then once you get there you won't enjoy it. We had the Prime Rib and it was amazing.

I think if you know your a picky eater then don't go to the unique restaurants.

Although it seems we're in the minority here, we've eaten dinner at Boma twice and loved it each time:goodvibes The prime rib is awesome:thumbsup2 We, too, have a picky eater, but he has no problems whatsoever eating at Boma:goodvibes We're thinking of trying the breakfast in December.

My extended family loves Boma. I thought it was just okay. I didn't DISlike it. But I didn't overly like it, either. I think the general "Boma aroma" puts me off a bit. Am I the only one? I start salivating when I walk into Chefs or Spoodles or the bakery, but not Boma...

Just an aside, but I don't really expect "authentic ethnic food" at Disney, just interesting food that's good and food I like. And I guess Boma isn't on that list for me. Different strokes for different folks.

DisFlan

Love it, love it, can't do Disney without Boma for dinner. The more people that don't like it, the shorter the line to get to the food.:rotfl2: :rotfl:  :lmao:

We went last year and it was average at best. It was loud and noisy, kids screaming and plates breaking. It was also a hassle because we didn't have a rental car and by the time we left, we had to wait A LONG TIME and the only bus we could take was to DTD, then get off and go back to the resort.

This year, we have a rental car and will be trying Jiko for the first time.

But we won't be going back to Boma (or Tony's) as a result of what we experienced last year.
