I believe it is 15 mins prior.

It has been reported that all parties with ADR's prior to park opening time are let in at 7:45am no matter if you ADR is at 8:05 or 8:55 with a 9am park opening. They could change this at any time I suppose, but that is what people have been reporting here on the DIS. Now, if you get there later than the initial opening for ADR's I don't know what would happen.

We had an 8:25 ADR and they let us in before 8. It was very quiet

One other minor question. Is there anything stopping us from simply using this reservation for coffee in order to get out of there as quickly as possible? My master plan is to use this opportunity to get into the park early in order to propose to my girlfriend with as few people around as possible.

Right now, not really. But it also doesn't prevent everyone else from doing the same. Not sure how private it will be for you.
