BOG lunch...are kids menu items listed REALLY the only options

For those who say food needs to be introduced or ???? I say you are kidding yourself... while some Parents can cause children to not eat some things and be less willing to try things... My wife hates most seafood will voce her dislikes about some foods... My son since he was 4 or 5 started eating shrimp, lobster, steak and any fish you can imagine.. orders the salmon at Cheesecake factory he was 8.. steak at Texas roadhouse... a cruise this year at 10 fish every night including frogs legs and escargot as appetizers.. he orders on his own... will also eat mac and cheese, hotdogs, hamburgers etc at Disney but if there is seafood you can bet he is ordering it....
We give him and gave him his freedom to order since a young age.. my wife is not very out of the box when it comes to food so to those who say introduce ya maybe it will work but a lot depends on the child... let them eat what the want... and trust me it ain't cheap when we go out... we do let him order off the adult menu and you can bet he is ordering the steak, lobster, salmon or any other fish that has a high price...and he eats it and enjoys it... if a child eats the entire hot dog or lobster and enjoys it that is what matters in the end...not everyone eats the same plenty of adults will only eat hot dogs, hamburgers and some sort of fried chicken...

Wow, lots of opinions here.

Kids can be so different. I have two kids, one of which is remarkably picky due to ASD/sensory issues, and another who was willing to try every dish I ordered at the food and wine festival at age 7. So, I disagree that is is all nurture and exposure. I did find some of the kids menus a struggle when my son was younger and less flexible, but since he had ASD, I just did my best to work around it without inconveniencing everyone. Now he is 12, and understands that his food preferences are not the norm and can be patient and wait to get food if there is nothing on the menu he likes.

Yeah this is probably the solution, have them split one of the sandwiches and you can't really tell it's on a wheat bread. You can leave off the sauce and everyone's happy. My son enjoyed the ham sandwich but liked my pork roast and green beans more. I nearly fell off my chair when he said he would rather have that next time!
the pork has been a huge hit with both of my college girls. I actually looked at the kids portion for my self since it's so big but saw that they don't serve it with the mashed potatoes and green beans. Hence, we split it.

I thought it was pretty good too. All I'm looking for when it comes to food at Disney is a place where we all find something we like. As you go with higher number groups I know that's hard. For a group of 2-3, I feel very lucky we all like similar things.

To be fair, the other reason Disney doesn't serve adult food in mini-size for kids is that many adults would try to order it...and Disney is all about the money while also trying to not be the location of "no". By offering mostly kid food for kid meals, they discourage adults from ever ordering them, thus never needing to say no or leave money on the table...
Then they can make rules and enforce them like many places. . Kids menus are for kids. If you want a light meal order an appetizer or split a meal .when I'm scoping out a menu for myself send in want to eat lighter I'm looking at apps, not kid menus . I do like the option of an adult sized and priced version if kid menus for picky adults though.

Since my hubby and I scored a reservation back when it first opened (through the email that they would send out) I have tried to get a lunch reservation for each trip since. This past visit my older daughter's best friend, who was with us asked that I get an ADR for BOG as we had had to cancel that one for her trip with us the prior year since the girls wanted to go to Animal Kingdom at lunch. She was impressed as well this trip. It was the first one I booked for my upcoming January and March trips too!

I agree with this. If that's part of why they don't have as many similar meals on the kids menu.

Personally, I wish the QS locations had less "kid friendly food" as my kids can't eat most of them. Hot dogs, chicken nuggets, pizza, pbj, burgers are usually not safe for their allergies. We love when we can find simple grilled meats with a side of veggies and potato. At BoG they get the slow cooked pork with no sauce, mashed sweet potatoes (or roasted potatoes) and broccoli. There aren't enough QS places with options for my guys which is a bummer.

I also wish they would offer more veggie options for the kids at TS and QS. It's always green beans, broccoli, or carrots. My twins are allergic to green beans and mildly intolerant to carrots which means broccoli at lunch and dinner pretty much every day at Disney. I did have a chef offer Brussel sprouts to one of my boys at Captains Grille once and he was in heaven!

You can probably order the adult couscous or the chicken kabobs split between 2 kids and the chefs would probably sub out the seasonal veg or olive salad with the kid meal normal side. You don't get an included kid beverage and it costs a little more (and a lot more if you have 1 kid), but it's doable...

You can probably also drop ingredients out of the couscous (or reduce any spice) if you ask. Again, it probably will just take a little longer to receive the food.
I order off of the adult menu instead of kids menu at a lot of places at Disney. This specific meal is a Candlelight Processional dinner, and I wasn't willing to pay the adult price for that. I will ask if anything can be substituted but I'm already planning that I'll probably just end up sharing my food.

Trouble is, there's too many likes, dislikes/other issues to make a menu cater for everyone possible!
Honestly, I don't think that's "trouble." Epcot is a perfect example. You want a slab of meat? Go to Le Cellier! You want couscous? Marrakesh has you covered. Food poisoning? Electric Umbrella!

No restaurant should be expected to cater to everyone ever, and if your family has fairly divergent tastes someone is going to have to compromise along the way -- not just at Disney, but everywhere.
