Bob Iger Makes 51.1 MILLION in Fiscal 2008

Iger makes alot of money. Enough money to buy all the cake or pie he wants. Ahhhhh pie. Especially banana creme pie. I love it. Cheese cake is good to. There's always room for some delicious dessert. Strawberry shortcake is good in the summer. Cinnamon buns are the best in the winter. In case you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about, I'm hijacking this thread. Politics, religion and all other hot button issues aren't as fun to discuss as the great pie VS. cake debate. Where do you stand on this extremely important issue?! :goodvibes

without a doubt cake girl here!!! Right now I am liking chocolate with chocolate frosting......yummy!!!

Sorry for my explosion podcast peeps my sis is getting ready to loose her house and not because she couldnt "afford" it. I let things get to personal.

Sorry to hear about your sis. As far as your preference for cake over pie........:faint:

I didnt say that your sister lost her house because she bought more than she could afford. I said that the Sub Prime marked is what has helped crash the economy, that doesnt mean that all foreclosures are due to sub prime loans, just a high percent of them. I trust you when you say that she had done things right. Im not going to keep making my argument because like you, I dont want to argue about it. I come to this site to talk about Disney, not politics. We dont have the same view on capitalism vs Socialism and thats just fine by me. I'd like to think that the people on the boards have more in common than in difference.

Feel free to take the last word. :)

Feel free to take the last word. :)

I will.

I love the idea that we are here because of our love of the same things and in spite of our differences.

This medium has the ability to bring us together, but it also has it's limitations.
One of those limitations is the fact there is it difficult to garner intent from what is written. We cant see body language or hear inflections in our tone of voice that would allow us to temper our reactions. It is easy to be misinterpreted.

Those of us that have been here for a while get to know each other and get to know when someone is joking. I told CrazyDisneyMan that now that he was going on the podcast cruise...I wasn;t going. I only get to do that because he knows us.

To all of those who are new to the boards...and lately there have been quite a few new folks....get to know us and let us get to know you. You will find that almost any situation can and will be discussed. Please note I did say almost.:thumbsup2

Lets congratulate Mr Iger and hopes that he makes the place we love all that much more spectacular so that we have more ways to spend our hard earmed dollars.

Thanks to all who participate in all of our discussions.

By the way....can I always have the last word? I like it.

If I respond to your last question then you wont have the last world will you??? hmmm lol

Kevin, I understand exactly what you are saying about the body language thing and how that relates to the 'carnival ride' comment. In hindsight we can go back and read the post and see that I meant nothing bad by it. When responding to your first post I didnt assume that you were 'mad' at me. I have a fantasy that all of the podcast team loves me as their very own. :thumbsup2 I guess my point is that we should assume the best when we cannot see one's body language.

Your my Food Critic Hero!!!!

Now, go watch a ballet or something. :goodvibes

"Can this guy make a thread make sense or What?!?!?!?!" This right here folks is why I listen every weak with baited breath.. You friggin guys are GOOD!!!

lUV YA kEVIN!!

I still don't think that it is wrong. As far as the "carnival ride" thing, I didn't say it for controversy, I said it to make a point. I too have had jobs that required little or no skills and I got paid accordingly. I have been a grunt on a framing crew and I have been a button pusher in a factory and have been laid off from both. My point is that when you preform a job that almost anyone can do you don't get paid well. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for castmembers and I wish they made more money.

Just a question for anyone. Instead of how much money he doesn't deserve, how much should he make?

Also, if the Gov bailed out Disney and he made that much I would be pissed.

I think 2 mill a year is quite "adequate" for any human being- 51 mill is just obscene, how could a person even spend that- Tell me why they almost doubled the stroller rentals so that it becomes oppressive for families who struggle to get to Disney with their families? These are the things that make me crazy. No need to make 51 million and make the families that keep your pocket filled pay over 200 dollars to rent a freaking stroller.
I wont even get started with the cast members- they do SO much more than run the rides- they make magic for families every day, this may not take a degree, but dedication and devotion to a company that should pay a LITTLE more than minimum wage.

I will.

Sorry Kevin- about taking the last word from you! My message was not meant to flame little Bob- everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to flame Disney for their decisions that hurt those that keep them running-
Yet we still go year after year because we are all here for same reason!

I just wonder how much tax he pays on $51 million.

Ok...when I first saw this thread yesterday morning I had just woke up and was looking at the boards in my iPhone. I thought it said $1.1 million and didn't understand why anyone would be upset about that considering what I would expect.

Now I feel better that I actually read it right.

BTW, I prefer cake.

I went back to read the article. Most of the 51k compensation package is in the form of stock options that will expire "out-of-the-money" (read as worthless). But ... a 2 million base salary + 13.9 million in "performance-related bonus + "other" compensation of almost 780k is not to shabby. :smokin:

I wonder what those performance metrics were!

A footballer in the UK (soccer) is reported to be costing £100,000,000 on the transfer market with a weekly salary of £500,000.

Who said the world has gone mad :cool1:

what are those funny looking things in front of the numbers? I dont understand...:confused3

The beauty of capitalism... Its what keeps us out of long potatoe, shoe and toilet paper lines at the distribution offices..

I guess I don't understand why this is wrong. A guy heads up a major company and he makes MILLIONS and people that operate carnival rides only make a few dollars an hour and this is wrong??? I know that Disney has been cutting corners and such but why does that make this wrong?

Disclaimers:
This is an honest question

I don't make millions

I have great respect for castmembers or anyone else that makes a comprable sallary(I have been there before with a family of five)

this is an honest answer....

51.1 million/year is $25,550/hour. That's more than I make in a year!!

Even if you figure he works 80 hours/week, it's still $12,775/hour!!!!! I don't care how good he is, as a share holder, he ain't worth that!

My stock is worth less than it was a year ago today, when I go to WDW, I get less bang for my buck and I pay more, and he's getting millions upon millions for this gross mismanagement!

Now granted his stock options make up a great portion of this compensation, which are "underwater," right now, and he did decline a 2.2 million bonus which he was entitled to, but when your actual paycheck is $152,000/week after taxes, you can afford to give up that measly $21,000/week. :sad2:
