We are staying at POFQ in Sept. Since there is no sit down restarants at this resort, can anyone tell me about Boatwrights at POR.

From what I have read on this board the Breakfast and dinner are very good adn you may need AR to get seated

I was just at Boatwright's for breakfast during my trip from July 3 thru 10. I've pasted my review that I posted last night:

Breakfast at Boatwrights. Ok, I sang this places praises. I absolutely LOVED it on my trip last year. I finally told Jake that we had to eat here because I needed to have my sweet potato pancakes. Well, I was not impressed at all. I think it was because we had the worst waitress. I remember her name because it is on my receipt. If you see Dyana, ask for someone else! She seemed friendly enough but she was just spaced out. The service was really slow (and it wasn't busy at all). She took our drink orders and we both got coffee and I said I wanted a water. Well she brought our coffee out and she told me it would just be a second on my water. I was really thirsty cause it was hot that day and we had just walked over from pofq. Anyway, after ten minutes she brought my water. I should mention that we ordered our food when she took our drink orders and Jake and I got strawberries and cream to start. Well, about two minutes after she got my water she came up from behind and left the berries and cream in front of me without saying a word and hurried off. I stared at my plate and figured she'd be back with Jakes but instead, not even a minute later she comes with our entrees (i had sweet potato pancakes and jake had bananna stuffed toast). I should mention, that I just hate when the entree follows appetizers before they are done. I mean, I know this wasn't a dinner or anything, but we wanted to eat our berries over coffee, digest a minute and then have our main courses. By now, I was really annoyed, but I didn't say anything. My husband did politely say that he had ordered berries and cream too and she looked all shocked "you did!" Then she looked at her order pad and said that he indeed did and they were out within a minute. We now have a ton of food crammed on a table for 2. eat the berries and our food gets cold, save the berries and the cream gets warm. I guess the food wasn't bad, but to be honest, this service was just sooo terrible that it affected how I enjoyed my meal. I just wanted to get out of there. So after we finish everything, she comes and starts talking to us. She wants to know if we're celebrating anything, blah, blah, blah. Really I just wanted the check (we didn't use the dining plan for this meal); but I told her we were on our anniversary. Well then she's like "do you guys like mimosa's" let me get you one. I told her I didn't want one, but she just insisted that we have one, so I said sure. I thought maybe she was atoning for the disaster that was our breakfast. So she comes back with our check and gives me a champagne glass and says "the wine wasn't chilled but I brought you orange juice". Now, it's not like I wanted the mimosa to begin with, but come on....she forces me, insists that I have this drink and then doesn't give me the booze. the wine must have been chilled because mimosa's are on their menu's. At this point, I wanted to forgo her tip all together. i was in a bit of a mood. Jake being the guy that he is tipped $5 (bill was 28) and off we went.

I guess I'll mention here that we did go to boatwrights a second time on the trip. I knew I was asking for it after our original service, but I just couldn't believe it could be that bad, after enjoying it so much on our first trip. We went on Sunday 7-10. Had a different waitress, and let me tell you, it must be something with those berries and cream, because she forgot to bring them out too and went straight to our entree! It was ok, because for the most part our waitress was nice and my sweet potato pancakes were really good. but I will say that I will never eat at boatwrights again.

We've eaten there several times since it's opened. We've never had a bad experience. It's very open so it can get a little loud but that's Disney. We've also had pretty good luck calling same day for a table. We've never done PS here.

We dined at Boatwright's in May and it was outstanding. By far, one of the best meals and service we had during our entire trip. I had the ribs (soooo YUMMY!) and there was enough there that I could have eaten 3 meals off of it! My sister had the pot roast...it was like an ENTIRE family sized roast! DS 13 had the jambalaya and he ate until he was miserable, said it was very good. I can't remember what DS 11 or DD 9 had, but I do remember no one had any complaints! The app. garlic cheese bites were great too! I will definately go back. :goodvibes

We love Boatwrights! The pot roast is real good and I'm not even a fan of pot roast. Its one of the few places I'll order it.

Without a doubt, go!!!

We had breakfast both 7/2 and 7/10 both were very good. I tried the banana frnch toast--if you ask for the strawberries on the side it is very much the same as Tonga Toast. Second time I tried teh sweet potatoe pancakes. Loved everything. The kids portions are huge too!

Thanks for the imput. Should I make a PS, we will be there on Sept29 thru Oct 2. Thanks.

I LOVE Boatwrights. I make it a point to eat there for breakfast and dinner every trip. Of course, I always stay in POFQ so it makes it easy to eat there.

I would make a PS just to be on the safe side. You can always cancel it if you decide not to go.

When we were there the week before Thanksgiving week 2004, we didn't need reservations. It was pretty slow. Although I really enjoyed the sweet potato pancakes, I wouldn't rave about the place. It was fine. I forget what we ate for dinner, so obviously it was not memorable.

I had dinner at Boatwrights in May. I wasn't expecting anything too great and was pleasantly surprised. I was staying at POFQ too and it was a nice walk to get there. I ate the salmon and it it was very good. The cornmeal bread was delicious :goodvibes

How far is the walk from POFQ? We will have 2 and 5 yr olds with us. And then, how far to the bus stop from the restaurant?

Thanks! Have a great weekend! :flower:

Dana- If I remember correctly I believe it was a 10-15 min walk at most, but it would take a little longer with small ones :) It is only a very short trip from there to the bus stop. If you are going back to POFQ you could also take the boat which docks just a few steps away as well. You also have the boat option to get to Boatwrights if you think the walk is too much. Hope this helps.

First off let me say that Boatwrights is the most underrated breakfast in all of WDW dining.

We go there at least twice each trip even when we are not staying there. The Henrys Hotcakes and Banana Stuffed French Toast are AWESOME. The butter for the cakes is also excellent, which I think is half the cakes.

But a bit of bad news.

They are the slowest of all places as well. You can get an ADR there most days for same day, but expect to wait, and wait, and wait.

For seemingly no reason. After sitting for 30 minutes they call you and bring you to your table and there are empty tables all over. It makes no sense.

But the food keeps us coming back.

The breakfast at Boatwrights is THE best breakfast I've ever had. I guess I should make the plural because I've tried more than one thing and they all tied for first place. If you want eggs, the Blueprint Omlette is amazing. You have so many option and it's just full. I love cheese and you can get it with all the cheeses, all the veggies, and all the meats you want. You can get it with everything they offer. If you are in the mood for a sweet breakfast, the Sweet Potato Pancakes are wonderful. They are served with pecan butter and are just right. I've not had the Stuffed French Toast but I've seen it and I've heard people at neighboring tables saying "MMMMM OOOOH THAT'S SOO GOOD" while eating there.
As far as dinner goes, when we ate there in 2003 we loved our dinner. This past trip March 2005, it was good, but not great. My son the catfish lover didn't care for theirs at all. My daughter liked her burger as much as any other burger at WDW. I had a beef dish with a chipotle cream sauce and it was fine, the side of asparagus I shared with my mom was great though. We all agreed, the food wasn't bad (except my son's catfish) but there are probably better dinner places at WDW.
For PS's, the only time I've had a PS ahead of time for Boatwrights was Easter morning and even though we wouldn't have needed it. On Spring Break the Saturday night before Easter, I went to Guest Relations in the main POR bldg to make a PS at about 3pm and got one for 5pm.
I'd say especially when it comes to breakfast, Boatwrights is one of WDW best kept secrets.

Boatwrights is probably our second favorite resort restaurant. We like the pot roast and the prime rib. We haven't tried the breakfast though but walked by once and from what we could see it would be worth trying.
