I guess I'll ask this here, since my post over on the community board didn't get any responses....

If we are staying at BCV, and want to get the unlimited boat & bike plan, do we have to rent the boats from BC or can we rent them from any resort that has them?

You can rent them from any other resort. We stayed at BCV last month and rented boats from Contemporary (could have gone to VWL) because we wanted to boat around on the bigger lake(s). The lake around BC and BW is just too small for anything. We did the captain's plan which was about $133. We had 4 hours use of water vehicles. We had 6 people, so we all got on a pontoon boat for an hour, then we split into pairs and got 3 watermice (sea raycers) for a hour each which equaled 3 hours useage, for a total of 4 hours usage.

Thanks for the fast reply! My DH and DS want to be on Bay Lake because it's so much bigger than Crescent Lake, but I wasn't sure if we could do that.

I think we will go with the Family Plan (?) where you get unlimited use of the boats for your stay. I believe it costs $239. They plan on renting the boats a lot and at $30 an hour, it's going to add up pretty fast!

Does anyone know if you get the Annual Pass 15% discount when you get either of these plans?

The Family Bike & Boat plan is already discounted, so no further DVC discount is available, or so I was told when last I checked.

And remember that whereever you sign up for the plan is the only place you can make your rentals. The plan is not "portable" to any other bike or boat rental places.

Thanks, Granny. Looks like we'll be signing up at the Contemporary! :D

the Polynesian and Grand Floridian will only allow you to get the plan if you are staying there. You can rent on an hourly basis but not pay the plan at these resorts.

Can someone provide more information about the boat/bike plan for the length of stay. Is there a website with additonal information on this? I would be very interested in this and have never heard of this package. Do you know if, with this package, you can take the boat over to Illuminations nightly?

You can sign up for the boat and Bike plan at VWL but you can only use the plan where you sign up. It is a hassel to get a bus from one resort to another. Actually you will need two bus rideseach way. I suggest you take your own transportation.

The boat and bike plan allows use of regular bikes, sea racers and poontoon boats for up to 10 day stays. You can have 4 or 5 people on the plan and use the plan as much as you want. When on the water you do need to check in every 1/2 to 1 hour to see if anyone is waiting for a boat. We checked in but never had to get off.

The cost is $239 + tax

You must be 16 or over and have a license to drive the sea racers (formally water mice) or 12 and 60 inches and have someone 18 or over with you in boat.

You have to be 18 or older to drive the poontoon boats.

But the most recent Vacation Magic had a short story about 10% discount on Sea Racers at OKW and said that the age was 12 & 50 inches. I'll take my copy along to show them, what gives, just tell me what is right. My 14 year olds want to know who to trust.

I saw this too and was wondering if the article was put together before they changed the rules, or if it was an oversight.

My guess is that the Bike/Boat CM's won't use a VM article as official policy....too bad!

Could it just be the Bay Lake/Seven Seas Lagoon resorts that have the 16 years/60 inch rule and DD and BCV have 12yr/50 inch? Has anyone rented a Sea Racer for a teenager at a non-MK resort recently? Vacation Magic came out much later than the 16 year age was first brought up here, could they be that far behind.
Please help settle this question, thanks.

I was at VWL 2 weeks ago. My daughter was a hair short of 60 inches last year. Thye would not let her drive a water mice.

This year they said since they have the new Sea racers that are faster the rules have changed. You must have a 18 r old with liscence in the Sea racer. This was actually fine with this paranoid mom.

I feel for those who used them before and know are not old enough.

Maybe BC has different rules.

When we checked purchased the Captain's Plan at the Contemporary Resort last month, the sign on the boat rental window was the old sign that had the information about ages and height requirements, but someone had just taken a pen and slashed through and corrected it to the updated requirements. So I'm sure they all have the same requirements, they're just not all up to date yet. They let my grandaughter (age 13) drive as long as I was in the sea raycer with her, but would not let her drive alone or with her friend. So she and I shared a boat and her friend shared a boat with my husband.

The requirement to have a licensed driver in the boat only affects rentals that have access to Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. This is in response to a very serious accident involving 2 young drivers that had to be air lifted from the site.

The rules stated in the DVC newsletter were written prior to this change and are still in place at all other locations.

I have a couple more questions regarding the LOS Bike/Boat plan if anyone can help...

Can this be used to go to and view Illuminations?

Does anyone have maps/charts of the WDW waterways?

I found very little information online about the boating at WDW. Could you please post any pertinent links (here or PM me) that you may have on boating at WDW - anything from locations, hours of operation, boat types, maps, etc.
