Greetings, My DW and I are on the fence about buying into the DVC. We had visited SSR in November and took the tour. We have done alot of thinking about this since our visit and we are getting close to making a decision. But we were curious about people who own at the Boardwalk vs. SSR. Looking for some pros and cons of each. We understand that SSR gives us 12 more years, but we are already both 40's... with DK 11, 24, 26 So even till the 2042 at Boardwalk, this would give them some years to use.

Any good / bad points of each resort?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

HUGE BWV fan here. I love that we are a short distance from two parks, and walking distance from several great places to eat. Jellyrolls is also a draw for us.

I also just booked our first standard point room there... quite a savings, and worth being able to book before the 7 month window opens up. (not to say that you cant book standard view less than 7 months out, but you cant count on it)

I firmly beleive in buying where you want to stay.....

Each person has a diffrent view of each resort.Truthfully I love them both.
SSR rooms decor is the most beautiful out of all the resorts in my opinion.
I love that you are so close to DTD,and that you can park right outside the room.

I like where BWV is located,I love the Boardwalk area. With BWV attached to BW it gives it more of a hotel feel.

Also Disney has the friends and family incentive that ends January 31st,if you are referred by a member you will recieve 15% discount. So, if you need a referral just let me know and I would be happy to help.

We are BWV owners and it is our favorite, but I will say that on our last trip it seemed that the maintenance was slipping a bit. The extra 12 years and whatever promotion Disney is running are positives for SSR. BWV and BCV have in our opinion the most preferable location.

We prefer BWV to SSR. It is very hard to book SV at BWV at times and we own there. I am on a waitlist for a SV studio for October 22nd, the 23rd did come through for me. I was booking less than 2 weeks into the 11th month booking period!!

The Standard View and it's convenient point savings is a big reason that we own 250 points at BWV. When we first bought in, DVC had BWV and BCV for sale, and it was the point savings that pushed us toward that decision.

We are empty nesters, so the extra time doesn't tempt us.

Hey Bobbi... I just booked SV for Oct 1st-5th 2 bedroom and a studio... they had a couple villas in all sizes availble for that time period.

I guess it is all in the timing!

I'll give a call to be sure I'm on the waitlist! Thanks for the note! We are having a small GG, an 80th birthday party for my DAunt, and we're the only ones without a place to stay on the 22nd. We are the "youngsters" of this gathering and if anyone has to be at a different resort, DH and I are willing to be the ones. The day I called for the arrangements was 1 week into the period and my mom was on the fence about going. The CM said I had booked the last 2 bedroom and studio SV for those dates, so the fact that 1 night HAS freed up gives me hope. We are staying at the Dolphin with DH's free starwood nights on the Saturday, but he doesn't have enough points for the Sunday night as well.

I think you will get it... Oct is a long way away. Like my siggy says, I book at the 11 month window only to cancel it 5 months later and book something 4 months out!!! :rotfl2: Thank goodness DVC isnt Like DCL where the price goes up the closer you get... :teeth:

I did read your siggy, and I smiled, because that's just the way life is, isn't it??

My "plan" is to wait until we're 7 months out and book PV using points other than BWV points, or even go on a waitlist if I have to. We are heavily borrowed all of our '06 points, there's only 1 legitimate '06 point left out of 550, and I'm getting very low on BWV, VWL '07 points as well.

PS. Glenn1, we would be very happy to stay at SSR if it ever comes to that, and we have willingly booked a short stay there that we loved. For us, there is really no question, it's BWV over SSR if we were buying points.

same here. we love being able to walk in and out of epcot with relative ease to have dinner/ see illuminations etc.

we stayed at SSR for 4 nights last may and it was lovely, the furniture and decor far superior (imo) to BWV and i loved the zero entry pool. however, the entire trip i longed for BWV  . i felt like we were out in the middle of nowhere at SSR. our kids are small and DTD holds no interest for us at this time (except for shopping and we devote our departure day to that).

so it's all in what you like.

Time is money folks. They extra 12 years mean a lot. BWV are great but I book them at 7 months with SSR points. The only time I've been denied is during F&W Fest. 12 years might not matter to you as you're older but it will to your family. I also believe time is running out for the the high resale prices of the older resorts like OKW. SSR has a much longer shelf life for resale value. You never know when you might want or need to sell. Within 5 years or so those OKW contracts will be selling for far less and you'll see Disney exercising ROFR far less. BWV, BCV will be right behind with falling values. Add to this the 15% incentive at SSR and SSR is the clear winner. Buy where you want to stay only matters if DVC rescinds the right to book other resorts ( which they never will) or if you must travel at peak times. Buy SSR enjoy BWV. Also remember that people are protective of there home resort on these boards. They DO NOT WANT PEOPLE BOOKING THERE RESORT AT 7 MONTHS. It limits there choices if they need to book at 7 months or less. "They" usually will not recommend buying one place to stay elsewhere. These I believe are the ones pushing the buy where you want to stay. I've never had a problem booking other places at 7 months and either will you. Enjoy those extra 12 years and rest easy knowing your family will. Do you buy the freshest bread in the store or the one that is going to expire soon? :confused3 Get the "fresh bread."

Dave

I agree with your preference for BWV and BCV over SSR. I honestly don’t know how hard it is to book at the seven-month window because I make reservations at 11 months.

As SSR membership sell and people take your advice, wont you be competing with them for the limited space at the smaller prime location DVC resorts?? From my own experience, I find it much more difficult to reserve HH at seven months out as DVC membership grows.

I think (and this is my personal opinion) that the rooms at SSR are ugly. I find SSR to be too far away from where we want to be. We aren't big DTD folks, but we are huge Epcot fans - particularly for dinner. The twelve years does nothing for me - I'll be too old to really enjoy them and I'd much rather have what I want for 35 years than have what I don't want for 47 years. Resale value over the long term isn't important to us, we will have our ROI before we sell and anything we get selling will be gravy. We don't intend to will something with fees to our children (not a believer in gifts with strings, they will get cash and a few heirlooms, but no timeshares) - and we are not in a good spot to will our ownership to our children - one 150 point contract and two kids does not make for happy siblings. I do like the option of the SV rooms at BWV - I think its a great bargain, and I like the option of BWView rooms - both are difficult to get consistantly seven months out. I'm not overly fond of the BWV decor, but I don't think its ugly (except for the shower curtain in the handicapped rooms and the slide). I like the option of room service (even if its seldom used) and like the feeling of interior hallways. Finally, I want to be able to book my vacation eleven months out without the stress of worrying about a seven month switch - unlike Laura, our plans don't tend to change.

Well, as you can see, everyone has an opinion!
Good luck with your choice, maybe we'll see you at "home" soon!

I want to thank all of you that have offered your thoughts on the issue... This is a tough choice....

Thanks again, and by all means... keep the ideas coming, maybe others have some of the same questions...

::yes:: ::yes::

LOVE SSR  didn't care for BWV!

We were in a 2 bedroom at BWV on 12/16 and 12/17 and then we were going to SSR for 12/18 to 12/23. We were so UNHAPPY  with the condition of the room at BWV and the "LONG WALK" down the endless hallway we moved to SSR a night early!

Good luck with your decision.

OK. I agree with that.

But $1 today is worth way more than $1 will be 36 years from now. So if time is money, then it follows that time today must also be worth more than time in the future. :teeth:

THEREFORE, since it takes much longer to get back to SSR after IllumiNations (or Fantasmic) than it does to walk back to the BWV - even if we stop at ESPN (or the Big River Brewery) for a beer on the way, LOL), BWV is the better choice for those who believe time is money - :teeth: :teeth: ;).

Best wishes -
